The whole purpose of the Holocaust museums are now bunk, time to replace them with something meaningful I guess.

[-] bear 197 points 2 days ago

Apologizing for publicly being against genocide is pathetic.

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 77 points 2 days ago

"Disgusting" was the word that crossed my mind, but "disgustingly pathetic" better captures the vibe.

[-] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 10 points 2 days ago

Try "repugnant" on for size... if it doesn't work for you just pass it on to someone else.

[-] BedSharkPal@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 days ago

So many fucking pathetic people and institutions these days.

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 22 points 2 days ago

Being against genocide is now anti-Semitic.

[-] prole 8 points 2 days ago

When will they realize that it's shit like this that makes actual anti-semitism a danger for the Jewish Diaspora?

All they are doing is making things more dangerous for Jewish people.

[-] Revan343@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

Zionists don't actually care about Jewish people

[-] Dnb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yeah wtf is going on in this world 😞

Also I do find it funny the image has one arm on the left barely holding the others, like it was always ready to not support them... ironic

[-] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 91 points 2 days ago

Dang, even the fucking Holocaust museum won't stand up against another holocaust.

The dusty crater that used to be the site of a dead horse that used to be my faith in humanity just took another beating.

[-] skisnow@lemmy.ca 22 points 2 days ago

What’s particularly suspect is how little coverage this story has got anywhere; I tried both Google and bing to fact check OP and the only sources for it are social media posts. Literally no actual journalistic source on the first page of search seems to have picked this up.

[-] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Journalism does tend to lag over the weekend. Idk if that'll make a difference here though, with Palestinians being so consistently dehumanized by Western media.

[-] PenguinMage@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Dont breathe that in, that's horse dust...

OK that's the end of my joking, this is fucking terrible and everyone should collectively feel worse for this fucking failure. It does not lessen the fucking holocaust to wish no one else suffers the same!

[-] Empricorn@feddit.nl 17 points 2 days ago

This is literally worse than nothing. It takes until the 2nd paragraph of their corporate-sanitized message before we read:

WE RECENTLY POSTED AN ITEM ON SOCIAL MEDIA [...] THAT WAS EASILY OPEN TO MISINTERPRETATION [...]

"NEVER AGAIN” CAN'T ONLY MEAN NEVER AGAIN FOR JEWS

Actually, that seems to be extremely difficult to misinterpret. It's a very simple, powerful message, that's actually not political at all. To let others make it political, you're really saying " never again, unless it's hard".

[-] muzzle@lemmy.zip 33 points 2 days ago

I suspect some wealthy donator made a few phone calls.

[-] hperrin@lemmy.ca 69 points 2 days ago

So they’re basically saying, “we were wrong, never again means only never again for Jews.”

[-] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 21 points 2 days ago

Actually, I think we should be allowed a little genocide, as a treat.

[-] TheEntity@lemmy.world 84 points 2 days ago

I guess them being a holocaust museum doesn't need to imply they are against it. Good to know who they actually are.

[-] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 2 days ago

In fact, it would make them rather unusual. For example, the Corvette museum is pretty pro-Corvette.

[-] Halahoop_eh@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

When someone tells you who they are, believe them.

[-] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 41 points 2 days ago

So "Never again, only for jews". got it.

The ADL is a supremacist hate group that equates Zionism with Judaism. Anti-semitism and holocaust are tools for them to enhance Zionism, and there is certainly overlap between supremacism and religion. The ADL/Supremacism influence over Holocaust museum is imaginable, and now obvious. Historical victimhood as a propaganda link to perpetual supremacy is an effective tool. Most minds cannot distinguish between sympathy support for non-genocide and support for supremacism.

[-] SonOfAntenora@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

It's been a lot of time now, the victim card smells like rotten flesh. Only the now exists to me.

[-] Agent641@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Power Rangers!

[-] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 34 points 2 days ago

Vocabulary time!

“Pusillanimous” is a word that means “contemptibly timid,” and which applies to a disappointing number of people and institutions these days. Like the Holocaust Museum LA.

[-] lennee@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago

so they rlly wanted to virtue signal values unless they become relevant? AND THATS THE APOLOGY?

[-] athairmor@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

“We want to be inclusive except when there are victims that we don’t want to include.”

[-] mrdown@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

How to generate more antisemitism

[-] skisnow@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Not even the most cowardly thing they’ve done this week. (Edit: I might be conflating two Holocaust museums)

[-] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 18 points 2 days ago

Don't any of these people understand how this looks?

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Why would they care about negative opinions when the people expressing negative opinions are mostly worried about appearing non-threatening?

[-] hayvan@feddit.nl 4 points 2 days ago

Relevant user name.

[-] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 days ago

Maybe they were pressured into taking it down? Where do they get their money from?

[-] grue@lemmy.world 30 points 2 days ago

To bend to pressure from fascists is to support fascism. There is no compromise on that point!

[-] lugal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 days ago

To be clear: I'm trying to understand, not to defend or justify

[-] grue@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

What's to understand? Either they took it down willingly and they're ideologically aligned with the enemy, or they capitulated and they're collaborators with the enemy. It's a distinction without a difference -- either way, they have betrayed everything they previously claimed to stand for and are now the enemy.

[-] guy@piefed.social 6 points 2 days ago

Most likely

[-] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 days ago

So, are they saying it is ok to commit genocides against non-Jewish ethnic groups, then? I'm not sure what message they're trying to send with this retraction.

[-] guy@piefed.social 5 points 2 days ago

Probably not. Just that when they say never again, it's only the holocaust they mean. I suppose if they wanted to speak out against genocide as a phenomenon they would word it something like 'This should not happen ever' or the like lmao

[-] rhvg@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Well, at least they eliminated the strategic ambiguity on this 🥱
