Even your gut biome can change how you feel. In theory, a fucking yoghurt can alter your 'real you'. There really aren't many things that won't change you in some kind of way.

Reminds me of the Buddhist belief that there is no self.

Do the rest of people believe the self exists anywhere else outside our imagination?

Yeah actually; saying "the unified and persistent self is an illusion" starts arguments when said around normies

I am forever changed just from having read this, even!

Or or - the "real you" is what's being held back by the condition that medication relieves.

[-] ickplant@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Bingo! I feel a lot more myself after getting medicated.

Good to hear it.

To be sure, finding the right medication and dose can be a challenge, and the less right medication and dose can leave you feeling "not yourself." Because our collective understanding of neurochemistry is still lacking. Honest and clear communication with your physician about your symptoms under different treatments is critical, and the very nature of mental health concerns can make that extremely difficult, even with an ideal physician and without concerns about cost/insurance - or the stigma created by Some Asshole.

With regard to Some Asshole, as it is so often, "it's more complicated than that."

Couldn’t agree more. I was misdiagnosed and mismedicated at first - worst time ever. But proper meds at proper dosages gave me my life back.
