[-] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 38 points 1 day ago

This is an amazing idea.

I'm sure manufacturers will have e their new supply chains and manufacturing plants ready to go in a few weeks.

[-] fluxion@lemmy.world 128 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Lol, ok i guess we're manipulating cpu stock prices now get ready to buy the dips everyone. Us poors benefitting from stock manipulation is the quickest way to to get them to stop with this nonsense.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

Not only that, but he's going to extort Jensen to pay for that ballroom

[-] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago

I'm gonna need the jacket, Jensen. Yeah the jacket. Leave it there. Now say thank you.

So, does Intel:

A. Justify their layoffs using this information that came out later?

B. Use it to justify further layoffs?

C. Completely ignore this as the market has no real effect on their internal workings

hope stocks don't move a needle over his taco speech, i think the whole chicken out thing came from the stock market

[-] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I think it was the PSA guys I heard talking about how the market is just ignoring him at this point. After the first couple announcements there were wild swings. But now TACO, and basically nothing changes.

[-] npdean@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

You are naïve if you think a lot of common people can benefit from any news. Remember folks- If it is in the news, it is in the price.

[-] rafoix@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago
[-] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 34 points 1 day ago

I’m guessing this means the stock for some companies will dip and when it’s TACO time, his friends will be a bit richer?

[-] lostoncalantha@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Between AP reporting and Trump. The US will turn into cyperpunk in 20 years

[-] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

Without the cyber, apparently.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

[-] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Like the show Max Headroom

[-] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 68 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

He won't do it, pure TACO. What's his plan to tariff the epstein files though? Many people are asking.

[-] doctortofu@piefed.social 54 points 1 day ago

Just 100%? Why not 400% or 9999999%? Hell, invent a new order of magnitude, call it Trumpillion and impose a Trumpillion percent tarriff, that'll show'em how strong you are and will distract them from the Epstein files!

[-] gdog05@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Just like medicine, he'll stop at 1500% so it doesn't sound outlandish.

[-] uienia@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

"Likely"? What kind of pathetic simping language is that. There is no "likely" about prices going up from such a move.

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

Wasn't Biden's chips act meant to encourage chips and semiconductor manufacturing to be shored in the US? What's Trump doing nuking everything with tariffs? Surely, the oligarchs who bankrolled him won't appreciate this.

Edit: clarity

[-] RandAlThor@lemmy.ca 5 points 23 hours ago

Yes Biden's chips act did create a ton of new investments in chip building in the US. Only for Trump and Maga to kill it upon taking power. Now he's going to claim the credit for all the investments made from the time of Biden's chips act.

[-] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 1 day ago

If he wants to give up the supercomputing race this badly he can also just drop the export restrictions on high performance GPUs to China when he's at it.

[-] ikidd@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago

Do it, you TACO. Make it 200%.

[-] Tja@programming.dev 6 points 1 day ago

1500%, like the discounts on meds

[-] SirMaple__@lemmy.ca 31 points 1 day ago
[-] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 11 points 1 day ago

I am kinda hoping that our history books would read:

"...Jen-Hsun ordered a successful hit on Trump. Despite clear evidence, he was found not guilty by the jury, and news networks were very lenient. Those who threaten the gold, are liquidated. Fortunately, the working class still overthrew Jeff Bezos and the other overlords, despite their merciless nature."

[-] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago

The only thing that will stop this tariff nonsense is the economic collapse of the U.S. as a consequence. Narcissists thrive on attention, and we have a narcissistic toddler repeatedly lashing out for attention, and getting it. Every time he announces a tariff, every news outlet covers it, giving him narcissistic supply. Then, the leaders of whatever countries are affected by the tariffs are then invited to come and kiss his ass in order to try to avoid economic ruin, making Trump feel powerful and giving him even more narcissistic supply. Until the consequences fall with their full weight, which have been delayed by companies stocking up on inventory in advance of the tariffs, Trump is perceived as "winning" the tariff game. Make no mistake, the biggest loser with all these tariffs it the U.S. economy.

[-] DirkMcCallahan@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago

I'm genuinely shocked that the .1% aren't pushing back against this kind of shit. Or are they just gambling that the inevitable depression will allow them to make out like bandits AND that it won't be so bad as to trigger outright societal collapse?

For a guy who hates taxes, he sure as shit loves taxes. He's such fucking moron. Please drop dead Donny.

[-] lostoncalantha@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

See I've got concepts

[-] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 23 hours ago

The cool part is how no one needs these and this won't impact our economy in the slightest.

[-] prole 9 points 1 day ago

Sure, why not

[-] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

Yikes, that would make cpu's as expensive as gpu's, and gpu's, well, unaffordable altogether.

[-] RandAlThor@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

He will exempt companies who makes chips in the US - as long as they make some of them in the US, their imports are exempt from the tariff. A quick glance says major chip makers (Intel, AMD, Nvidia) have some production facilities in the US.

[-] WalnutLum@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

I guess that means those cheap SoC boxes we've been seeing all over are gonna double in price.

[-] womjunru@lemmy.cafe 15 points 1 day ago

So basically we can design them, but we can’t afford to buy them lol

[-] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

While I hate this, I’d love to see risc-v take off.

[-] tunetardis@piefed.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Wait, they're not all made in China? Last time we were ordering some for a development board at work, we had to source them from China, though that was admittedly a few years back.

[-] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

It’s open source, you can fab it anywhere.

[-] agelord@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Guess I won't be upgrading from my 10 year old desktop anytime soon.

[-] maxxadrenaline@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Greed. Hes pure greed. Satan take him to the right rung of hell. Make him eat gold coins and poop them out forever.

[-] dellish@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Haha, yeah, let me believe there's a plan anywhere in sight.

[-] Juice@midwest.social 3 points 1 day ago

He is not going to leave willingly.

[-] fantacyde 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Doesn't Apple still use Samsung chips? Or is that something from past assembly?

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

About everyone uses non-US chips in the US. Think about anything digitally controlled, and there will be at least one non-US chip in it. Sometimes dozens, sometimes hundreds.

Just another point to show that Trump has no clue about anything business.

[-] Honytawk@feddit.nl 2 points 1 day ago

None of the chips in the US are fully US made.

[-] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Last I heard the Apple M series chips are made by TSMC, but maybe storage chips could be from Samsung?

[-] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Dear America are we tired yet of all this “winning”

[-] Grizzlyboy@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Nvidia investors are getting so hard right now!
