Now how am I supposed to get this to my desk without either spilling it all over or burning my lips trying to slurp it here. I've been drinking coffee for at least 25 years and I still do this to myself at least 3 times a week.

If they're anything like my they're just gonna fill it anyway and have an even bigger problem. I actually got a smaller cup to make the problem smaller.

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 33 points 1 month ago

Carry the coffee maker. It's your mug now.

that's how I started, now I drive a cement mixer to work

This is the same approach as "add one more lane" to a congested highway. You know it's not gonna work.

Just get a saucer.

The induced demand theory of coffee cup size.

My favorite every morning moment: bow down and SLURP

[-] AdamBomb@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Bow down before the one you serve

You’re going to get what you deserve

(It’s coffee. You deserve coffee.)

Oh fuck yeah spread that meniscus

[-] RejZoR@lemmy.ml 26 points 1 month ago

I love how surface tension is the only thing still keeping liquid inside the cup...

[-] jojo@piefed.social 14 points 1 month ago

When I saw the photo and this wonderful surface tension I thought this was a science meme

If the pathway from your coffee maker to your desk has sufficient width and structural support to accommodate a 70 ton tracked armored fighting vehicle, tank gun stabilizers can maintain pretty stable beverage platforms.

This is eminently slurpable. The clue is in the name, it makes the sound because you're not pressing your lips against the rim of the cup in the same way as a sip. You're more sucking in air towards you over the cup and it happens to lap up a few little waves of coffee that are thoroughly cooled on their way to your mouth.

[-] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago

This guy slurps.

[-] trolololol@lemmy.world 16 points 4 weeks ago

In case you still need help: If you're reading this now, your coffee will be cold so you can finally slurp it.

[-] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 weeks ago

Nice moccamaster, I have one in Burgundy, they make really good drip coffee

[-] MyRobotShitsBolts@lemmy.world 5 points 4 weeks ago

You do know your coffee makers 👌

[-] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 11 points 1 month ago

Moccamaster is relatively popular brand where I live. Most people know about it. It always boggles my mind when I see a middle class family with a 35€ coffee maker. Why cheap out on something you're using multiple times a day for the rest of your life? These things are not that expensive and spare parts are widely available.

[-] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 11 points 4 weeks ago

Put it on a plate. You'll spill, but it'll stay on the plate.

[-] cRazi_man@europe.pub 10 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Others have posted longer term solutions (bigger cup, skill issue, etc). In the immediate situation you have some options:

  1. Decant to another cup. There's no way to do this without creating a mess.
  2. Put a plate under the mug and carry it back to the desk with a couple of paper towels to clean up the mess (if work is urgent)
  3. Leave it on the counter and sit there for 5 min till the top can be sipped before going back to the desk (if work can wait)

Easy: redefine your "desk" to be that counter. Problem solved.

[-] pyre@lemmy.world 9 points 4 weeks ago

you're gonna need a bigger cup

[-] rollerbang@lemmy.world 9 points 4 weeks ago

Surface tension at its best. And its max.

[-] Valmond@lemmy.world 8 points 4 weeks ago

You don't need solution when you have the best coffee maker ever built!

(True)

Solvable problem. You just need a turkey baster.

[-] mexicancartel@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 weeks ago

All you need is a Pythagoras greedy cup

[-] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 6 points 4 weeks ago

True! Then instead of spilling my coffee on the counter I could spill it on the counter instead.

Get another cup an only fill them both halfway full. You will now be known as "2 cup larry".

[-] Arghblarg@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 month ago

Use a straw if available...

[-] cloudless@piefed.social 7 points 1 month ago

That would be worse than burning the lips.

[-] baggachipz@sh.itjust.works 5 points 4 weeks ago

Top-notch meniscus

[-] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 weeks ago

Let it there for 5 min. Then slurp it. Then move it.

You need a cup with an expandable section, sort of like luggage has

[-] Perspectivist@feddit.uk 5 points 1 month ago

Or maybe I just need to start drinking straight from the jug.

[-] Mothra@mander.xyz 4 points 1 month ago

That could work too, spare yourself washing mugs

[-] cloudless@piefed.social 4 points 1 month ago

Kitchen paper.

[-] thebustinater@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 weeks ago

Scoop some out with a metal spoon. The liquid in the spoon should cool quickly so you can still drink it without wasting any. Repeat until the level is low enough to carry.

[-] TheTurner@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 weeks ago

At least you get it in the cup. I have coworkers who forget their mug is beside the Keurig machine and press start... Lol
