Bottom line is, even providing "defensive" weapons to a state committing genocide is wrong.
Bullshit. AOC is right.
I can't agree, bottom line is war isn't strictly both sides. if isreal were just loading up defensive capabilities and say holding up nukes that they don't use... that would be one thing. But the fact is they are using their allience with the US, and their defensive capabilities to enable them to strike at others.
Think of it like a playground. We've got this kid jimmy here who has a long history of both picking, and getting into fights.
We make a rule that's magically unbreakable, no one can hurt jimmy when he's standing in this area. At first it seems good... but now Jimmy runs out, sucker punches people then runs back into the circle and yells "I'm safe". Later on we find out Jimmy's learned he can throw rocks at other kids, while standing in the circle.
I don't think it's fair to argue, well the circle is purely defensive, we don't want any kids getting hurt, removing jimmy's circle of safety is just letting jimmy get beat up, without stopping him from beating up other kids.
Which IMO is just not true, the circle is enabling jimmy to be as bad as he wants to be to everyone else.
Honestly, it doesn't matter if you agree. Israel is committing genocide. End of story. Nations who commit genocide deserve no support
No disagreement there. But in general the key point is pointing out the meaninglessness of the claim that you are only supporting one aspect and not supporting other parts.
Further analogies... say a family member is a drug addict. You don't want to support their drug addiction, but you do want to help them... so you buy their groceries. (Ignoring the possibility that they resell or barter your groceries for drugs), even then the problem is still obvious... you've saved them the money they would have had to spend on food... and while not using the money you gave them, they could still apply the money they saved, into buying drugs.
Key point, yes 100% agreed with you, isreals actions means they deserve no support at all right now, without a major change to government, huge change in their public actions. If there is a country in the middle east that actually needs a regime change war... that's the one.
But on top of that, the idea that you can support a country only doing what you don't disagree with, without supporting their evil actions otherwise, is really nonsense.
"But on top of that, the idea that you can support a country only doing what you don't disagree with, without supporting their evil actions otherwise, is really nonsense.'
Your wording is a bit unwieldy ( no insult, mine is often way worse), but I believe your saying that it isn't possible to support a country's noble intents without supporting it's evil?
Yes it is.
Support I. The sense that we do not have to do a damn thing with them at all if they don't stop their shit. We can
Now am I naive and believing that the countries we support don't do evil shit? No. Not at all. And honestly if fucking GENOCIDE wasnt what was being engaged in, yeah I can see working deals and such.
This isn't the time for such bullshit. There isn't ENOUGH time. The Palestinians will be gone if we keep playing these fucking games.
I appreciate your civil discourse btw, be assured that any harshness isn't directed at you personally.
So Ilhan Omar is wrong? They both can't be right. The author made a good point that AOC voted differently in the past, was AOC wrong then?
