Remember that this is the fault of the countries wanting to join NATO so they can help the countries defend themselves against Russia and anything else you might hear is western imperialistic propaganda.

Join the lemmy.ml boycott

I've already blocked this... place. It might be a bit too much to block an entire instance, but their behavior is concerning.

[-] Sludgehammer@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Wait... you can block an entire instance?

[-] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 weeks ago

Might be client-dependent, mine allows it

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

yes. i blocked the triad of tankies and any extremist posts/and porn. you can go to settings>BLOCKS(YOU CAN block communities, people, instances)

[-] Green_Mouse@piefed.social 3 points 3 weeks ago

I know about hexbear and .ml, but what's the third tankie instance?

[-] Rozauhtuno 3 points 3 weeks ago
[-] Green_Mouse@piefed.social 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Oh, darn, I forget about this instance! Thanks.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

i always forget about grad, we encounter .ml and hexbear the most if your not blocking them. .ml users do make appearances on occasion in other posts.

[-] Psythik@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

In the Voyager app it's under Settings > Filters & Blocks > Blocked Instances.

I think it's interesting that RT said that trump is Russia's counterpart. They're saying he's an authoritarian POS too.

[-] milkisklim@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

Eh. That's actually a pretty standard thing journalists do. What it means is that Both of them are presidents of their respective country.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago

trump is basically copying putins own govt, install loyalist, have said loyalist constantly fight each other, so no one can oppose you, weaken the military/ economy to achieve the same effect, have your own secret police.

[-] NuXCOM_90Percent@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 weeks ago

... While I very much have strong issues with the tankie/horse shoe theory propaganda...

y'all are really suggesting boycotting lemmy.ml because the head admin there is an a-hole... while using lemmy... that said admin is the head dev of.

[-] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 30 points 3 weeks ago

To paraphrase, NWA said “fuck the police” when they meant “I’m profoundly disappointed in the police for their barbarism and abject bigotry.” Do I think the police are a net positive to society? Yes. Do I wish they’d stop being power tripping pricks with clear sociopolitical biases that serve as a detriment to everyone in contact with them? also yes.

[-] amino 4 points 3 weeks ago

fucking bootlicker, do better

[-] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 weeks ago

Do what better? Verbalize why I don’t trust the police or complain about web devs?

[-] cm0002@lemmy.cafe 25 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Code is code, open source is open source.

Lemmy is coded to be a link aggregator type social media, there's nothing inherently political about it.

It's the fact that they use their supposed "test instance" and their influence as the Lemmy developers to spread their "message" because they know that it's going to be difficult for other instance admins to defederate from the "Dev instance" that's the problem.

And indeed that's pretty much what's playing out, most instances defederate from the first 2 of the triad fairly easily, but when it comes to the .ml instance admins are hesitant. Even though .ml allows much of the same crap, just "tempered" under the surface.

Not all of us. But yes. And?

Being the developer of a software is one thing. Software is basically a tool. Good or bad is in the use of it. In application his use is bad. But plenty of us see the likely writing in the wall and are making moves accordingly as well.

[-] Green_Mouse@piefed.social 10 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I don't really want to use any software when the administrators/developers of this software do not recognize the genocide of my people (or other peoples) and speak similar tankie nonsense. Lemmy is not very popular as it is, and I don't think it will become more popular if the administrators/developers are... like this. The good thing is that it's open source, and there are alternatives.

[-] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

Honestly though, 99% of users have no clue who the devs of their platforms are, and could not care less about them. Same with admins.

[-] cm0002@lemmy.cafe 8 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Normally, yes. However, the Lemmy devs thrust themselves into the spotlight with their words and actions (dessalines themselves has posted Tankie content, just recently a meme about the DPRK dictatorship being "western propaganda") through their instance

If they just had alts on grad or hex that no one knew was them, or hell ran grad or hex with said, we wouldn't be here on this comm today.

Instances would just defederate them and move on, but they don't want that because it reduces their audience.

I ditched lemmy and went to piefed exactly for this asshole (dessalines).

Also I don't get why some people defend said asshole while there have been tons of threads roasting in unison software like Brave or Hyprland or IDK what else for their dev being transphobic or racist or whatever. I'm not a fan of either of those, but it just doesn't make sense to me.

[-] ech@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

The software is open source and free. As long as it remains so, whoever is developing it is of little consequence.

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.

Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post as opposed to arguing.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction will double the amount. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.
