"NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE," posts the man who just led us into war.

[-] huppakee@feddit.nl 59 points 1 month ago

Ikr, it's like puncing someone in the face and then telling that person now is the moment to stop fighting lol

[-] voodooattack@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I read a post that said he couldn’t go to war without a vote from congress, was that wrong?

Edit: I’m not a US citizen so I’m not sure

[-] 2piradians@lemmy.world 51 points 1 month ago

The constitution gives Congress the exclusive power to formally declare war.

That said, Congress hasn't declared war since 1942, yet we've obviously taken part in many wars since then.

Sadly there just hasn't been enough Congressional support to retaliate against a president for jumping to military action without authorization. And it doesn't help that the average American doesn't know that the president is not allowed to just deploy troops at will (in most cases, Iran included).

[-] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

If the president can do it without consequences, then he is allowed. Turns out words on paper mean nothing.

[-] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 19 points 1 month ago

Legally speaking that's correct. There was nothing legal about this, though.

This is what you voted for protest-non-voters.

[-] witten@lemmy.world 36 points 1 month ago

This lukewarm take in every comment section is so old and boring. Maybe try blaming the fascists for all the, you know, fascism.

[-] torrentialgrain@lemm.ee 38 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It’s fair game to blame citizens of fascist countries for the politics they helped to bring forward. And the "democrats and republicans are the same"-crowd that is very vocal on Lemmy definitely helped to enable this.

[-] witten@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It's a form of inaction and doomerism. "I voted the right way. My hands are clean.. as we all march towards authoritarianism while nobody bothers to resist." I don't care how you voted. Get on the resistance train now or I guess see you in CECOT.

Sounds like you don't like me reminding protest-non-voters what they voted for.

Got another 3.5 years of this. Longer if you count the time it takes to fix things.

we're all suffering because of people who protest nonvoted right now. So fuck them. They're just as much to blame as the maga voters. They fucked everything up. Its fucked. Its all fucked. So yeah, were going to be pissed about it.

[-] witten@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

My point is, regardless of fault, all this backwards-looking, performative infighting on the left accomplishes nothing at this particular moment. We've, uh, got bigger fish to fry. So let's focus our animus (and resistance efforts) on the fucking fascists whose boots are on our necks, shall we?

[-] TheFriar@lemm.ee 12 points 1 month ago

Fuck yes. It’s more than performative infighting, it’s some self-congratulating back patting nonsense while ALSO accomplishing nothing and making a cohesive resistance much less realistic. It’s so fucking self-serving and pointless. A self ego stroke.

They're all patting themselves on the back right now claiming Harris would have done the same thing.

That'll teach the Democrats for not embracing socialism.

[-] DeathCubeK@lemmy.ml 56 points 1 month ago

Kamala did warn you Americans.

[-] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 53 points 1 month ago

Given how Germany, France, the UK etc have all lined up behind Israel, towing the line that Israel has a right to defend itself, and even going as far as saying that Israel is doing our dirty work for us, I have very serious doubts that Harris would not have followed Israel down the warpath.

[-] torrentialgrain@lemm.ee 12 points 1 month ago

A Kamala administration would not have left the Iran nuclear agreement though.

[-] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 month ago

Trump killed off the JCPOA in 2018. Biden had four years after 2020 to do something about that and didn't. So I don't know what you're basing your assertion on, it sounds more like wishful thinking to me.

[-] prole 13 points 1 month ago

Iran had zero interest immediately re-entering the agreement the previous president just broke. And rightfully so.

Clearly you just want to blame Biden and Democrats for this and pretend things would be just as bad with Harris

*Bombs a peaceful country. “Now is the time for peace.” 🫲🍊🫱

[-] Jhex@lemmy.world 47 points 1 month ago

without congressional approval

[-] Glytch@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

Congress decided quite a while ago that presidents are allowed to have a little war, as a treat, and only seek approval for it later. It's been this way at least since the '90s and likely before.

Now, when a terrorist attack occurs, he's fully justified in declaring martial law.

It's as good as over, folks. Checkmate.

[-] Jhex@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

he doesn't even need that. he already does whatever he wants legal or not

[-] Hikuro93@lemmy.world 31 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Closeted men of war preaching about peace. Closeted gays fighting against gay rights. Judgemental/greedy/racist religious people putting themselves on a pedestal about how you should "take care of thy neighbor".

It's always the ones who preach the most, the same ones doing the exact opposite of what they preach. Always the ones bitching about the bad in the world actively hard at work making the world a shittier place.

Seriously, if Trump says the sky is blue I'll immediately look up just to check if it hasn't turned red/green/pink/whatever.

Be always wary of the ones telling you how to live, and watch out for their actions closely. There's no hate like the 'love' of these hypocrites.

Officially we'll only be able to call that afterwards, during the cold war ww3 also almost begun. We should still try stop and prevent it, no matter how difficult it to argue it hasn't begun yet.

Well at least Genocide Joe didn't become the president.

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 17 points 1 month ago

Well what is genocide Joe saying about the war? What about Harris? Chuck Schumer? Hakeem Jeffries? They're saying exactly nothing because they're inside AIPAC's pockets? Thought so.

This fucking dickhead drumphkins. Could someone please....

[-] Noite_Etion@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

Can someone help me out here. How do they know that these sites are being used for nuclear weapons production specifically?

Iran does have a nuclear power plant and they do enrich their own uranium. Not trying to justify these bombings, I'm just curious on how they determined these sites are specifically for weapon manufacturing.

Remember when Iraq had weapons of mass destruction?

Same thing.

[-] Noite_Etion@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

So total bullshit with zero evidence, cool. Just felt I was missing something as they kept calling them nuclear sites without specifying what they believed the sites were being used for.

Thanks for confirming

You know, the first two were enough for the world.

I guess we've lived long enough to see ourselves become the villain.
