School uniforms are just the norm in Australia so can't relate.
Remember kids, if you are ever approached by someone suggesting you engage in criminal acts to look at their shoes. Undercovers are frequently wearing shoes that are polished and don’t quite fit the aesthetic.

Pretty much every pair of shorts that aren't either running or swim shorts are that length. The tapered fit is definitely an aesthetic choice though.
