I was really intrigued by the idea of short “jury duty” sessions with 12 random strangers in which you have to debate and try to come to a consensus on an issue. Disappointed to see it’s just a one-click opinion poll instead.
Hello Slippy, Thanks so much for playing! It's super exciting to see feedback and I'm really grateful you took time to come back to Lemmy & let me know what you think! I think Lemmy & sites like Reddit are amazing and revolutionary for that debate, discussion open conversation type of situation they create. So if it's a peer group conversation you want whether it's office attire, family row, political debate...that is where you would go. JuryNow is more about a very diverse group of 12 people from Guatemala, Germany, Gambia, Georgia who are made up of all ages, cultures, professions, giving you a verdict that is pure unadulterated wisdom! The more diverse the jury, the better the verdict! And so while the JuryDuty can feel la bit like a chore, the part where you get your verdict from 12 real people is exciting if it's your own quesiton, and you know that 12 people have just considered it! Well this is what I hope and when lots of people are playing online simultatneously and all the juries are live, it works! But I'm learning that the negative feedback is a load more valuable in some ways! REally appreciate it!
Genuine question. Why is this a game? Don't the players just answer questions?
That's a point that my daughter has also asked because she says there are no winners therefore it can't be a game! It's a game mainly because it's fun when you receive your verdict knowing that 12 random people from anywhere in the world have just answered your question - whether it's what shirt looks best or whether to move house. It's also a game because there is a subtle team at play which you will never know...while playing JuryDuty you are answering with 11 other anonymous team members. It's a more of a game when you are actually asking a question (not just trying the JuryDuty trial round - that's more to get an idea of the game). Also, this is just the MVP, but the real model will be more "gamification" with User Stats, and rewards for playing streaks or contributing to different verdicts etc....Have I changed your mind a teensy bit? I can't tell you HOW incredibly helpful it is to get feedback! and I'm genuinely grateful for you playing & taking time to comment back!! Thank you Konrad!
I see. So it's like "Ask a friend" of anything. It's a useful application though, if the responses come quick, with more users joining of course. Say, I got two outfits to wear and I want opinions. If users disclose their nationality, occupation, age group and gender, I'd want to know the responses come from say, all male, then I know people of my gender that have such and such jobs wear similarly so I'll be more confident in choosing the outfit. I still don't think it's a game. You can make it fun to help out others by including daily quest, points system etc. Otherwise, I don't know why I would want to spend my free time on others.
Thank you Konrad! Exactly, except rather than a friend or someone from your peer group, it's a totally diverse group of all ages from all countries in the world, giving you an objective opinion - the type of feedback & verdict you wouldn't encounter in your daily life. So the outfit concept is a great one - say you are wearing something standard is your country - let's just guess Hungary. But what do people in Ghana and Guetemala and Hong Kong think on it? It's a snap decision between two outfits based on people from age 16 - 99. (I have seen a 13 year old and a 93 year old play & enjoy it, so ok, 99 is maybe exaggerating; and actually the age limit is 16+) . The reciprocity part is curcial though!
So does it ever tell you what the jury verdict is? I've done like 12 answers and there's no visible confirmation that there were other people answering the same question let alone what the final verdict was. Kind of kills the vibe, was hoping I'd at least see what the other random anonymous jurors responded to the same question(s).
Also would be more interesting if the site would publicly show the questions/verdicts as they come in. (assuming the person submitting the question is okay with it showing up publicly on the site)

- Was the moonlanding fake? 3/9
- Did Bush know 9/11 was gonna happen? 8/4
- Was Hitler right, though? 11/1
- Was Thanos wrong? 6/6 (forced by Thanos to be perfectly balanced)
That's fair, LOL.
hello there Barry, thank you so much for playing firstly! You never get to see other player's verdicts for a few reasons....no confirmation bias, it keeps it's anonymous, and - when I launch the proper version - it will be one free play per day so it keeps it more of a daily ritual, rather than playing too many loops (this is because empathy & objectivity decline after a while!) But THANK YOu for the feedback. I'm also thinking of having a feature where you can opt to share your question and verdict, and you can opt to ask for it. Do you think that would work too? (lots of people have asked this, including my chronically curious bf!)
Opt-in might work. But thinking more about it, not sure if it would be too much of a headache to manage.. I'd think you may end up having to moderate what actually shows up publicly on the site else you end up with the sorts of questions/answers that the other commenter mentioned.
Thank you again Barry!
