"Texas is a coping mechanism disguised as a state" gonna be stealing that quote

[-] atro_city@fedia.io 56 points 1 week ago

"land of the free" and they have 1000 laws on what you can and can't do with your body

Hit the nail on the head

Everything's bigger in Texas, even the "small" government.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

The penises clearly aren’t

New Hampshire is the closest thing America has to feral freedom, their moto is "Live free or die", not sure why everyone always talks about Texas being the wild west anymore.

[-] Kennystillalive@feddit.org 51 points 1 week ago

you have 1000 laws of what you can do with your own body but can buy a gun faster than a library card. That's not freedom. That's live action satire.

Dude was spitting.

He really was. Banger line after banger line.

Edit: "The food is a cholesterol threat disguised as southern hospitality" was fantastic

I lived in Texas for two years. The number of times I had the following conversation was staggering:

Texas is the best place in the world!

Oh? Where else have you been?

I ain't been anywhere else... Why would I go anywhere else? Texas is the best place in the world!

Sometimes there was legitimate confusion on their face. Sometimes it was delivered deadpan. Sotimes it was more of a challenge or threat. It was always flabbergasting...

Texas would be a pretty awesome place, if not for all the Texans. They're insufferable.

[-] seeigel@feddit.org 1 points 1 week ago

By design. Look at the origin of Texas.

[-] gibmiser@lemmy.world 27 points 1 week ago

And Texans response to this would be a "hell yeah" and some sort of threat about if you don't like it blah blah

[-] Mbourgon@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Nah. Largely accurate. But not everything is covered in BBQ sauce - the best BBQ needs none. But don’t get me started on the gravy.

Yeah I was gonna say, Texas barbecue is famously unsauced, at least my default.

[-] GoodLuckToFriends@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

Listen, the brisket doesn't need the sauce, because unless you're a weenie you get the moist... but ribs should be fucking dipped in that divine nectar.

The line about the library card is what drives me up the wall. It's ridiculous how tough it is to get in some places. You want a freaking utility bill?!? I'm renting a room, for fuck's sake. That isn't just a texas problem though, because I know florida was just as stupidly difficult.

[-] Mbourgon@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Agreed on the library card. But the best ribs I’ve ever had, surprisingly to me, were from a chain (Red Hot & Blue) that had dry-rubbed ribs that had the perfect amount of flavor, tender but not too tender, and weren’t going to require a hose-down when finished

I've been to Texas and this checks out.

Don't get me wrong, there are pockets of sanity, Austin is ok. But on the whole it's like some sort of nightmare that the Republicans want to use as a template for the rest of the country.

[-] Vorticity@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

I felt like Austin was trying way too hard. The city felt like 20% over the top hippies, 40% normalish but traumatized people trying to live their lives, and 40% right wing nut jobs.

That's still much better than most of Texas which seemed like 40% normalish people and 60% right wing nut jobs, though.

Keep Austin Weird!

Texas is the America of America.

I hope he left before he posted that.

I really want to like Peertube. It's just really hard with the diverse hosting bandwidth requirements. 2 minutes in and I still dont know how long this video is, much less it's content.
