Slave labor ... this is the goal ... bring people in on the strictest terms, make vague promises to them about citizenship if they keep working ... then make them work for a lifetime with no benefits, no protection, little pay (or even no pay), owners can be free to treat them as they like, no one is punished for abusing them, label them as less than human.

[-] obvs@lemmy.world 56 points 4 days ago

His goal is unquestionably slave labor.

[-] normanwall@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

He thrives in creating chaos that other people have to sort out, because he rarely has to deal with the repercussions.

Just the worst type of person to be in charge of anything.

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 121 points 4 days ago

Fucken idiot's plan is already crumbling and he fucked us up irreparably on the global stage.

But have you said thank you?

[-] stringere@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 days ago

I didn't do it.

Oops...wrong prayer

[-] aeternum 3 points 3 days ago

wrong prayer probably because you're not wearing a suit.

[-] Oni_eyes@sh.itjust.works 101 points 4 days ago

Does he mean the work visa for seasonal labor THAT WE ALREADY HAVE?

[-] adarza@lemmy.ca 42 points 4 days ago

no, this is the new migrant visa card made from compressed cheeto dust. it costs half their gross wages each month. it allows employers to treat them like slaves, they have no constitutional rights, and they can still be kicked out and banned from re-entry on a whim or a sneeze from the white house.

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 14 points 4 days ago

It also costs $2000, which pays for the gold needed to imprint his ass cheeks on the thing

[-] ripcord@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Not just kicked out and banned, but sent to some torture prison or outright killed.

[-] Doctor_Satan@lemm.ee 22 points 3 days ago

Trump says [THING] is bad
MAGA hates [THING]
Trump says [THING] is good actually <------ you are here
MAGA says they've always supported [THING]

As predictable as the setting sun.

[-] 60d@lemmy.ca 87 points 4 days ago

Lolol he's gonna take credit for other programs that already exist… again.

[-] wildncrazyguy138@fedia.io 23 points 4 days ago

You made this? No.

I made this.

[-] SSNs4evr@leminal.space 18 points 3 days ago

Wow! How long until "the man" starts collecting passports, and requiring working immigrants to work off the debt of being allowed to work the fields, before allowing them access to their passports to be allowed to leave - likely with an ICE escort?

[-] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 39 points 4 days ago

Like a, idk, work visa? That you have to pay some money to the government? Like a tax?

I'm sorry, but I've met vegetables with more understanding of the world

[-] futatorius@lemm.ee 26 points 3 days ago

The current status of undocumented workers is by design: they are underpaid, disempowered and vulnerable. If they try to form unions, they can be deported at no cost to the exploitative scumbags who hire them. If the employer wants to get away with a bit of wage theft, they just have to call la migra. Any future arrangement will replicate this situation, possibly with even more precariousness for the immigrants.

[-] cyphear@lemm.ee 30 points 3 days ago

I know it sounds harsh, but I hope they don't come back. If they get treated like this once and then get the "opportunity" to come back on a provisional basis what's going to stop this administration from making camps where they are allowed to live only to work on a farm with no time off? What about the off seasons? Do they still get to stay? The ones who've left are the lucky ones. If history has taught us anything is that deporting en mass is just the first step. If nothing causes a major change in leadership, well, it's been a good run. Hopefully, from the ashes rises something better.

[-] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 40 points 4 days ago

Come to America... Maybe Get Sent to a Supermax Prison for No Fucking Reason.

Yeah, that campaign ad just writes itself.

[-] Dogiedog64@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

Ahhh, classic doublethink. These fucking dipshits simultaneously want to kill all immigrants, while making them work all the shit jobs, and if you point that put to any of them, their heads explode. What a bunch of fucking maroons.

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

It is not double think, it runs to their own worldview that immigrants are inferior and only worthy of working in manual labour.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 46 points 4 days ago

Do you think they're gonna want to come back after we cancel their Social Security Numbers?

[-] EmptySlime 23 points 4 days ago

Seems like they're basically counting on many of them having no choice but to come back. Just like they're counting on them being willing to accept having basically no rights.

Because slavery is better than getting killed by gangs/cartels of course /s

[-] SaltSong@startrek.website 11 points 4 days ago

Just like he was counting on China you need us more than we need them.

I really hate people who are constitutionally unable to negotiate in good faith.

[-] sun_is_ra@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 days ago

Yes, if they cant find better alternative

[-] aramis87@fedia.io 29 points 4 days ago

Recession is decreasing domestic tourism and fascism is killing international tourism. I doubt we'll need the hotel workers for long.

[-] halfpipe@sopuli.xyz 25 points 4 days ago

The author questions what Trump means by “slow things down a little bit” while I’m out here wondering how he defines “legal workers.”

I’m imagining how this might look in California: brought back into the country by your employer? For the benefit of your employer? In a HCOL part of the country? Without a working SSN?

Welcome to endentured servitude.

You know that no one in a blue state would be allowed to use this "program"

[-] MehBlah@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Flip Flop 47 does it again.

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 23 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

We’re going to slow it down a little bit for them, and then we’re going to ultimately bring them back. They’ll go out. They’re going to come back as legal workers."

Translation: they are going to come back as a El Salvadorian prison workers, and as prisoners they are going to be legally slaves.

After they've been broken.

Like a horse. Or Theon Greyjoy.

[-] 60d@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

All Murcan prisoners are legal slaves, not just the Salvadorans.

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 days ago

Yes. That's the point.

They are American prisoners. They are being sent to El Salvador prisons because nobody in America would build a legit concentration camp here.

The ones that survive are going to come back as literal slaves.

There's probably some loophole shenanigans around oversight for basic human rights by having the prison, itself, be an entity of another country entirely. Probably some law written in the 18th century. Americans wouldn't stand for the level of suffering these people are about to endure...so they want to make sure American's don't see it.

[-] 60d@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago

It's so gross in Murca now. I really hope they get their shit together quick 😒

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

LOL, isn't this what so many racist qons think was one of Ronnie Raygun's worst offenses?

[-] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

I only found out about that game a few weeks ago, but Ronny Raygun and Maggie Satchter are two of my favorite video game villains.

[-] running_ragged@lemmy.world 20 points 4 days ago

Yeah, just leave the country. We’ll totally let you come back. Promise.

[-] luckystarr@feddit.org 13 points 4 days ago

For almost no money of course. No, no there is nothing nefarious going on, you know. Everybody knows, we just want to help.

[-] Tronn4@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

He's going to grift a way to get money out of it

[-] Aeri@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

So the general trump plan is to fuck everything up and then like, 1/10th fix it and now we're just sat here much much worse off? Fantastic.

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I mean, that was most of his first term.

[-] rothaine@lemm.ee 2 points 3 days ago

we're just sat here much much worse off

Only for certain definitions of "we."

Are you one of Trump's billionaire friends? He was just bragging last week about how much money they made with his insider trading dump-and-pump scheme. So for that definition of "we", they are actually much much better off.

But yeah fucking over all other definitions of "we" is the plan, you pretty much nailed it.

[-] Aeri@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I miss when Regime Change was something I read about in history books, not something I thought about when I watch the news.

[-] gibmiser@lemmy.world 10 points 4 days ago

Sounds like the United Arab Emirates' king or whatever have been whispering in trumps ear.

If the plan is citizenship, then good. I could actually say Trump managed a good thing through all thr BS.

Worth all the rest of the chaos? Not even close. But it's something.
