Not just nationwide either. Absolutely beautiful. Solidarity from Canada <3

Maybe OT, but there's comfort knowing most online accounts minimizing irl resistance (saying this is nothing, or not enough, or they're not doing it right, or I can do 6-7pm on Wednesday lmk, omg people have jobs, why aren't they angry at this other thing, and on and on) are working overtime.

Remember learning about the work that went into de-legitimizing the Women's Marches?

More than 4,000 miles away, organizations linked to the Russian government had assigned teams to the Women’s March. At desks in bland offices in St. Petersburg, using models derived from advertising and public relations, copywriters were testing out social media messages critical of the Women’s March movement, adopting the personas of fictional Americans.

They posted as Black women critical of white feminism, conservative women who felt excluded, and men who mocked participants as hairy-legged whiners. - NYT, Sept 22

The day after the World Said No to War, news article after article sold the story back to us that we didn't really DO anything because the USA was still bombing people. But everyone who was there remembers looking around and realizing no matter what the news tells us about our activism, we still care enough to show up for each other, and We Are Everywhere. With oppositional media framing everything as hopeless, depressing, alienating, etc, physically being with other people who give a fuck is not just good for politics, it's good for our mental health (or soul, if you're into that).

The Berkeley hippies were out! Made all the faces Vance with advanceblur.com 😂

[-] humanspiral@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago

media coverage of protests is a positive step. Did not call anyone there antifa scum is another step.

[-] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 78 points 2 days ago

I get 3-4 emails daily from the DNC asking for money and nothing about this.

Hands off is the wrong message. Like a bad relationship, "It's time to clean house and get the FUCK OUT!"

[-] gabbath@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

"Hands Off" is the right message. It's short, direct, punchy, combative, and doesn't give way to bs attacks from conservatives the way e.g. "defund the police" did. It's also inclusive of every group (except the elites in power of course), while hitting the "no war but class war" vibe pretty well, like it's a common struggle that we're all a part of.

[-] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 day ago

Burning a certain building or company to the ground is the right message. Everyone should be on a FBI watchlist after all the shit he did.

[-] gabbath@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I was just talking about the slogan. You're talking about sending a message through an action. Those are two different things that are not mutually exclusive.

That said, having burning buildings as the "message" is mutually exclusive with rallying millions of people. Personally I'd prefer the instances of vandalism remain fringe events unassociated with the movement so as not to put millions of protesters in danger any more than they already are.

[-] Lennnny@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

I have a feeling the message is intended to start as a kinda first warning. Like "we are angry". Next one "We're really angry, and in bigger numbers". Next one, "[removed by reddit]".

[-] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 day ago

Angry? Trump pardoned a company, snatched citizens off the street, blew up the federal government, and is allowing the spread of multiple viruses. Banned from reddit comments should be the first response.

[-] petrol_sniff_king 2 points 1 day ago

Then go and do that. I mean, what are you waiting for?

[-] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 day ago

You're right. It starts with me.

[-] Bacano@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

“[removed by reddit]”.

😂😂

Just left the one in Denver. I think I heard 11,000 people from one person but I don’t know. It was a lot, I know that for sure.

Edit: My Aunt just sent me pics of the protest she was at in West Virginia of all places. That never happened when I lived there. Keep it up!

[-] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago

Wasn't it awesome! There were SO MANY PEOPLE, it was awesome to see. The march next to stopped traffic with most of the cars honking and cheering us on WHILE THEY ARE STUCK IN TRAFFIC BECAUSE OF US was amazing. People are PISSED.

[-] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 39 points 2 days ago

Tens of thousands estimates from organizers are that it's a hell of a lot larger than that.

[-] Katana314@lemmy.world 29 points 2 days ago

I’ll admit this is an unconfirmed claim, but one of the organizers at Boston’s protest said it reached 100,000 people. The entire city hall plaza as well as the whole street going to the commons was packed.

[-] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 14 points 2 days ago

According to Trump it was like 5 or 6 people. Mexicans probably. If you want to see a real crowd you should come to one of my Rallies - left wing media photos and videos of empty seats at them and people leaving after 20minutes are just fake news propoganda of course.

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Yep Boston looked like just a few immigrants, some Asian lady leading chants (Boston Mayor Wu) and a bunch of people singing with weird accents (the Dropkick Murphies!!) ….. and tens of thousand of others

[-] plantmoretrees@lemm.ee 30 points 2 days ago

Omaha showed up in force today! Thousands of people!

[-] polyamorypagan69@lemm.ee 32 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It has to be a Multi-pronged approach Against the parasitic class.

[-] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago

There were no reports of any major disturbances or arrests at any of the rallies.

No chuds showed up anywhere? That surprising but worrying, what are they planning...

[-] Cornelius_Wangenheim@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I think all but the most stupid and brainwashed realize Trump has really fucked the entire country. They'll never admit it or turn on him, but the silence is deafening.

[-] tehfishman@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

There was a single MAGA with a trump flag at a protest I attended. But the worst that happened was everyone booed them and then a small group followed her around.

[-] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 5 points 1 day ago

In new York I saw a single counter protestor. A black woman, oddly. She seemed a little mentally unwell based on the weird stuff she said (other than just the trump support)

I saw a handful of cops, but they were just watching passively.

When a firetruck had to go down the road, everyone surprisingly quickly cleared the way for it.

[-] silentjohn@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

At our DSA rally, one one Zionist showed up to stir up some shit, but he left pretty quickly

[-] AlecSadler@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

At least where I am in Oregon the worst were just lifted trucks driven by snowflakes coal rolling.

I think everyone else was just being a keyboard warrior.

[-] Guns0rWeD13@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

and of course, oregonians being oregonians. they just let these lifted trucks coal roll them without so much as a molotov cocktail in response.

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 24 points 2 days ago

That pic from New York! 😍

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I wish I could still pretend that any of these protests mattered. At the end of the day everyone's going to vote Democrat and Republican again and none of it will matter, because both parties are beholden to the ultra-wealthy and rule as conservatives.

[-] shaggyb@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

You gain absolutely nothing by being correct about this.

Making an effort anyway at least gives you a chance at improving your life.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I am fully aware I'm shouting into the void.

[-] shaggyb@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Why not shout into the void with a few thousand like minded shouters, then?

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

If I felt like it would change anything, I'd do just that.

[-] shaggyb@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

You gain nothing by refusing to try.

[-] Anise 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Why not keep your defeatism to yourself? Be part of the solution or stfu.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Because my parents are literally one flat tire away from homelessness, and the same people out here pretending to oppose oligarchy were perfectly content to have this country be pillaged when a Democrat was doing it.

But, fair enough. I'll leave my objections where they are and let you have your moment.

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

pillaged when a Democrat

You think at this point you'd know what that actually looks like. There's a difference between "overly respected the Constitution and separation of powers instead of just recess appointing a Supreme Court justice" and putting tariffs on all of our allies and serving Russia.

Do you want to contribute to solutions, or are you just here to cry and whine?

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago
[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

That'll happen when you live in a country like this. Everyone's desperate.

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago
[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I wish I were just being dramatic.

My eighty year-old parents are driving for DoorDash, and if they don't, no one in this government will lift a finger to help them. Tens of millions of Americans can't absorb a $400 expense without going further into debt. Most Americans don't see much wrong with the fact that people are working 2-3 jobs at upwards of 100 hours a week and all their labor buys them is a roach-infested studio.

Respectfully, me and most Americans have every right to be angry, and it shouldn't have taken the onset of fascism to make you partisans actually see how negative your politics are, because this severe impoverishment is now in its ninth year, and all we heard from Democrats were excuses.

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Well maybe if people don't vote (or vote third party, same thing), that'll help. Or at least that's what you're strongly implying.

Yeah, we're all angry. But when two parties control 98% of the government, you have to be a little more discerning than "they're all bad". Particularly so when one side is fucking Nazis and the other side ranges from Bernie to Pelosi. And I don't give a shit how much you hate Pelosi, she's not a fucking Nazi. Even Pelosi is still better than the best federally elected Republican who has retained their office. When things are so clear between the parties, it's a moral crime to be so lazy as to say they're both the same. They're not.

You don't have to get on board with every Democrat. But if you're not on board with Bernie and AOC, I don't know what the fuck you expect to get done. And Bernie and AOC are largely supportive of the Democratic party. When they're not, they're very precise and directed about it. They never imply "they're all the same", and we shouldn't be that lazy either.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Well maybe if people don’t vote (or vote third party, same thing), that’ll help.

After the last eight years, neither of these two parties is appealing, and the people who don't vote saw both parties do nothing about their impoverishment for the last eight years. Blaming them is like punching someone in the face and then complaining to them that you broke your hand. It was particularly disgusting watching Kamala Harris tell poor people that she'd do nothing about it for three months AND that they should just "be joyful".

you have to be a little more discerning than “they’re all bad”.

We're way past that. Unless you're willing to commit an act of terrorism or vigilantism or have a billion dollars, you have zero power now. Same as the rest of us.

But if you’re not on board with Bernie and AOC,

They're powerless too, mostly. Dems invented superdelegates in order to subvert their own primary rules and force Bernie out. I will give Bernie some credit as his use of the bully pulpit has created positive change. Remember when he gave speeches on Disney's and Amazon's labor practices and ended up winning living wages for a quarter of a million people? I sure do.

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

neither of these two parties is appealing

Lazy, damaging, useless shit.

[-] jacksilver@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Fighting for your rights is sadly a constant battle. While these protests may not have an immediate impact, they show Trump and Republicans that there is growing discontent/anger.

There are already articles of RFJ Jr arguing Doge cut too many jobs, there are many Republicans afraid of the tariffs, Republicans are avoiding town halls, etc.

All of this is about public sentiment. While we may not all agree on everything, if enough of us agree Republicans are fucking up, they'll notice.
