Honestly, when Dropout started, I liked pretty much every show. Now they've been adding a lot of new shows, and I'm not as thrilled with all of them. But that's okay, and supporting a service where I still like most of the content, plus ensuring that the performers and staff get paid well and treated well is worth it at $5 a month (with an annual subscription).

Even if this did affect current subscribers, I'd still gladly pay the increase, and I'm going to continue recommending it to friends. New subscribers still have the huge backlog of all previous content to work through!

I actually think it's a good thing I don't enjoy every show. In my mind it means that they are making content for a wider audience thus making it more sustainable. That is of course assuming some people enjoy the things I don't like.

Even when it started I didn't like every show. All the role playing shows are just not my cup of tea. I've still been a subscriber from the beginning.

I was prepared for an expected price increase to keep paying their staff and such.

Dropout is easily the best value I pay for ad-free streaming content, and still would be after the price change.

I was pleasantly surprised to be kept on the old price as a long term loyal customer.

These people do great work and it's totally worth $7 a month. :)

Also this is only for new members, so they aren't even suddenly getting a ton of money for this like if they just randomly hiked the price on all of us.

  • new members and existing month-to-month or former subscribers.

You only keep the current price if you're on the annual plan by may 7

Dropout is my far the best streaming service I pay for. It’s not even close; nearly everything they make is fantastic. plus they are also the cheapest! I also feel like this price increase is a really standup thing to do; as it doesn’t effect current plans.

Greed ruins everything...

EDIT: I get that they're a smaller platform. But if you launch something like Dropout, are a success, making money, yet still raise the rates after only 2 years!? What else would you call it...

Our budget is six times this year what it was in 2022. Higher prices simply means that we can spend more on shows, the infrastructure to support those shows, and treating our people even better. And I, Dropout CEO, do not own a boat.

yet still raise the rates after only 2 years!?

What world do you live in that it's unreasonable to up prices after 3 years? Especially when it doesn't impact existing subscribers? And by only $1/mo for the people it applies to.

I’m cancelling my Dropout subscription!

So I can renew it when the price goes up because I love supporting their content.

It's a niche video production and distribution platform, that type of service costs a lot of money to run. They don't have an advertising network to subsidize their operation like say YouTube or billionaire investors relying on an IPO and subsequent enshittification down the line. The fact they can operate not only the platform but also pay talent for their produced content with that monthly cost already is a miracle.
