So this is the inside of a douche mobile

[-] HarkMahlberg@kbin.earth 142 points 2 days ago

Jesus wept, look at that blindspot in front of the A pillar. It's the size of Elon's ego!

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 51 points 2 days ago

The swastidumpster doesn't have blind spots, it has visibility spots

[-] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 6 points 17 hours ago

I mean, that has been my experience with a lot of newer cars. They're feeling more and more like airplanes; rear visibility isn't great, trunk lids are higher, pillars are thicker, the cabin is full of headrests and shit...

and to add insult to the injuries, some modern cars don't even let you disable the fucking airbags without connecting to the odb2 port.

cars have just ben getting worse and worse for the few applications where they are the best option (sparsely populated areas with bad infrastructure where having more than 6" of clearance is a hard requirement to not scrape the bottom on potholes).

[-] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

Because having an A pillar isn't bad enough, they went ahead and added a second one...

Probably so their drivers don't see the people they cut through and end up traumatised?

Children are replaceable. Always remember: empathy is weakness.

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

Yeah, I get how they keep taking motorcyclists out

Just do a U-turn in the opposite direction.

[-] GraniteM@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

"I'm not an ambi-turner."

[-] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 51 points 2 days ago

I'm sure the fact that the steering wheel is a rectangle makes this issue all the more annoying.

Holy hell this is embarrassing. I nearly pre-ordered a cybertruck several years ago before Musk lost his mind and there were few EVs on the market. Glad I got my Chevy instead - it's a rock solid EV.

[-] bisby@lemmy.world 97 points 2 days ago

Elon lost his mind and was calling people "pedo guy" for saving kids before the cybertruck had preorders available.

[-] Blackmist@feddit.uk 10 points 2 days ago

That really was the day the mask fell off.

He was quite well liked up to that point.

[-] Kit 8 points 2 days ago

I haven't heard of that one but just Googled it. What a weirdo.

[-] metaStatic@kbin.earth 26 points 2 days ago

The cars where garbage long before he lost his mind

[-] tazeycrazy@feddit.uk 7 points 2 days ago

Glad you saw sence. It's hard to know what in Tesla is Musk and what is Tesla. Considering that half the staff at Tesla have to Elon proof the factory so he doesn't stop production because he doesn't like the colour of the robots or something. The cybertruck is all musk.

They had upper management specifically to distract him like a toddler

[-] PDFuego@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

How harsh are the penalties for using your phone while driving over there?

[-] vfsh 7 points 2 days ago

It's a ticketable offense in most states, but that's usually it, so just a fine or a day in court if you want to try to fight the ticket.

[-] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Cops do not give a flying fuck about people using their phones while driving. They're too busy looking at the actual fucking laptops they have in their cars.

Or they're looking at their phones, too. I'm a school bus driver and a couple of years ago I had a cop pass me doing 45 mph while I had my flashing red lights and stop sign on. He nearly hit kids that were crossing and when I looked down at him I saw him with one hand on his steering wheel and the other holding his phone.

[-] desktop_user 1 points 14 hours ago

speaking of laptops, what are the penalties for using one while driving?

How harsh are the penalties for using your phone while driving over there?

Very very light.

  1. What is the fine for distracted driving? The fine is $172 for this offence. This amount includes a fine of $150 plus the 15 percent victims' surcharge. This fine is in keeping with the fines for other traffic violations.
  2. Are there demerit points for this offence? No. It is felt that the dollar fine will encourage drivers to focus on driving. Drivers that exhibit what is deemed to be more serious or risky behaviors could be charged with 'driving carelessly' under the Traffic Safety Act. The penalty for the existing 'driving carelessly' offence carries six demerit points and a fine of $402. If a driver does commit a moving violation while engaged in one of these activities, or any other deemed as a distraction, they could receive two tickets - one for distracted driving, and one for the moving violation.

Demerit points

(I am not American, but I have had the displeasure of seeing one up here)

[-] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 29 points 2 days ago

Steer-by-wire, ladies and gentlemen.

[-] yuri@pawb.social 7 points 1 day ago

it should be SO SIMPLE to have it automatically correct. ffs, we had on-the-fly digital calibration figured out with PS2 GAMES, but i guess making a fucking car isn’t as important as compensating for old joysticks.

[-] femtech@midwest.social 32 points 2 days ago

Not the issue, I have a Kia EV6 and have had no issues with steering. Just shitty Tesla thing.

[-] owenfromcanada@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

Yeah, the issue is shitty steer-by-wire. I work with VW on theirs, it's solid (if a bit overcomplicated).

[-] Robomekk@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

The Kia EV6 is a fairly conventional electric power steering system, pretty sure. Steering wheel is physically connected to the steering rack, so not steer-by-wire.

[-] WordBox@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago

$5 rc controllers can do turns without losing center, though.

[-] Mac@mander.xyz 5 points 2 days ago

Makes you wonder how overcharged this is then. lol

[-] derpgon@programming.dev 4 points 2 days ago

Disclaimer: I am European, I use kilometers. Realized after the whole paragraph.

About 100% of the price. It is worth nothing, and yet it has a non-zero price. Pre-release i though it looked goofy, saw the price and said to myself it is wildly overpriced. Saw the reviews and I wouldn't want it free.

Most cars don't see issues before 35k. None of the cars my family owned (7 different) didn't have any (apart from one battery issue that basically prevented the car from starting up and required a support person to go reset the car on site).

Hell my 33k Citroën (don't judge me) C3 didn't even need geometry fixup. The only issue was a marten chewed on my engine cooling pipe, leaked all the coolant and started overheating the engine on the highway. Fixable with some rubber pressure bandaid and 2$ roll of tape. The pipe was a $40 fix including shipping the pipe from France and work.

[-] tazeycrazy@feddit.uk 6 points 2 days ago

I'm guessing there is a recalibration mode but I'm sure the modern car market would demand you go to the dealership to run that program.

[-] someguy3@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Best steering of any dumpster.

[-] metaStatic@kbin.earth 16 points 2 days ago

just do a u turn in the other direction

[-] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 18 hours ago

Just do a reverse n turn
