My internet hole is loose from repeated insertions

[-] rbn@sopuli.xyz 19 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

How did you manage that with a mini aux connector?

[-] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 5 points 4 months ago

Pussy8 data cables will do that.

[-] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

You wouldn't download pants.

I was gonna say that I have to sometimes refer to it as "RJ45” port, because we actually also work with differently shaped Ethernet ports. Then I decided to look up, if that's specifically the name of the plug or of the port as well.

And Wikipedia is immediately like, oh yeah, the scrubs refer to it as "RJ45", when it was really named after the "RJ45S" standard. But that standard actually describes a specific, obsolete wiring configuration of what's really an 8P8C connector.

Never change, Wikipedia. 🙃

Yeah, it shows a lot of implicit biases by using that label.

Ethernet doesn't always mean Internet, it has other uses too! It's a whole specification. It can power a LAN party or even deliver power!

Laughing at a funny mistranslation: not racist.

“All Chinese people are stupid, they can’t even spell Ethernet”: racist.

[-] stinky@redlemmy.com 1 points 4 months ago

I'm not sure if you're being deliberately obtuse?

I'm not calling out the mistranslation, obviously. I'm calling out The Simpsons -related gag above it which turns the mistranslation into a racist joke.

Let me know if you need any help understanding. Or maybe you could ask your educational institution, assuming that you went to one.

No, we're talking about internet holes. It's a World Wide Phenomenon.

[-] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 4 months ago

I'm currently reading though ways to DIY an internet hole into my car hole. Now I see the folly of searching for articles using terms like rj45 keystone and garage.

[-] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 months ago

I haven’t heard that in a long time, most people just say iHole now.

[-] Tiger_Man_ 2 points 4 months ago
