That might be the same person, just at work vs at home.

Or years apart after a life changing realization

[-] Lemjukes@lemm.ee 51 points 3 days ago

The Linux to Transfem pipeline is real!

[-] Ziglin@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

Hmmm that can't be right, did I use the wrong terminal? Why can I only sometimes be a girl?

Or it's their child

[-] evidences@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

It must feel so good to get home, take of your slacks, and let your programming socks out after a long day in the computer mines.

[-] Prunebutt@slrpnk.net 31 points 3 days ago

Wake up, Neo

[-] NeilBru@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I've reached the acceptance stage of possibly being a pariah in the community for not wanting to wear the socks.

I'm also a cis-gendered heterosexual married male, so I guess that tracks.

[-] AFC1886VCC@reddthat.com 117 points 3 days ago

I have more in common with the guy on the left but I love and support the people on the right

[-] Damage@feddit.it 12 points 2 days ago

They support you too... And the whole internet infrastructure!

[-] Petter1@lemm.ee 30 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I read people on the tight 🤭

[-] whoisearth@lemmy.ca 12 points 3 days ago

All about that bussy

[-] Lvdwsn@lemmy.world 44 points 3 days ago

My company just went under and let us keep our laptops, day after they wiped it I got Ubuntu on it. So I'm a little bit of column A, little bit of column B!

[-] PieMePlenty@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Dont have the socks yet huh?

[-] Lvdwsn@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

Not yet but they look comfy

[-] smee@poeng.link 7 points 2 days ago

Programming socks.

[-] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 39 points 3 days ago

I've worked with a bunch of hardcore Linux users in my career, some of whom even knew about Lemmy. Not one of them have ever worn striped socks though.

[-] kittenzrulz123 11 points 2 days ago

A lot of transfems boymode in a professional setting :c

(Myself included)

[-] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 33 points 3 days ago

The number of trans people is very small. Only a small percentage of people who work in tech are trans. But a relatively huge percentage of trans people work in tech.

[-] monogram@feddit.nl 7 points 2 days ago

Nor is every thigh high sock user trans.

[-] Dragonstaff@leminal.space 3 points 2 days ago

I respect cis people's right to wear whatever they want...but if I see striped thigh high socks, I will continue to make assumptions until told otherwise.

[-] JennyLaFae 3 points 2 days ago

I don't work in tech but literally just put stickers and opensuse on a refurbished Thinkpad I bought a few days ago 🫡

[-] Petter1@lemm.ee 31 points 3 days ago

I guess the important thing is Arch 🤭🫠

[-] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 3 days ago

Gentoo was mentioned more actually.

Ugh. I hope the current owner has new keycaps for all the sock colors because matching socks + keyboard is cool, but well… when you change your socks that goes out the window

[-] thejml@lemm.ee 44 points 3 days ago

Judging by that picture, I think they’re all in on that color scheme and likely just bought multiple pairs of the same socks.

[-] hddsx@lemmy.ca 19 points 3 days ago

That’s baller

[-] Bryllyg 25 points 3 days ago

Redundant socks is essential for this setup.

[-] boonhet@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago

Look, I have a suggestion that will change your life. You can never live another way again.

Go buy 10-20 pairs of socks, all same. When you get a hole in one sock, you only throw away the one sock. You never have to worry about mixing and matching. If you've got two socks, they count as a pair.

I'm not even matching my keycaps to socks, nor wearing anything special, I just found a specific pair of socks I liked and I've bought heaps over the years.

[-] LostXOR@fedia.io 23 points 3 days ago

"plural inside"

Multi-CPU systems be like.

[-] Krompus@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago
[-] termaxima@jlai.lu 11 points 3 days ago

Arch Linux !? Libel ! Real trans people use NixOS 😎

[-] not3ottersinacoat@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

I use LMDE because I'm lazy, cranky, and it just works.

[-] Asetru@feddit.org 6 points 3 days ago

You Linux users sure are a contentious people.

[-] termaxima@jlai.lu 9 points 3 days ago

We have our turf wars but we’re all secretly friends. Friendly competition keeps everyone motivated !

Wtf does trans have to do with anything?

[-] Nalivai@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

What does Arch have to do with anything?

[-] Luffy879@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 days ago

What do computers have to do with it anyway?

[-] Tartas1995@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It is (at this point) an old meme.

https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/programming-socks

It is similar to this meme too.

[-] Gemini24601@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

I’ve wondered that myself, but I’ve come to the conclusion that transgender individuals seem to value their privacy more than the average person. This is all due to increased cyber bullying to them online. Linux is well known for being free from data collection (except Ubuntu) and corporate greed, so it would make sense if this was an operating system of choice.

[-] elrecoal19_1@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

IT trans-woman stereotype

[-] Strider@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

X200s Love it.

[-] Magister@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Same for old Dell, the $2000 laptop can be grabbed at $300 after 3 years, this is really cool. I installed Linux on mine too of course.

[-] MintyAnt@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Now I just gotta replace my battery so it can be a laptop again!

[-] rcbrk@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago

The replacement battery you bought in 2017 was the last of the genuine stock for that 2012 Thinkpad model. Now it's only poor quality aftermarket. Maybe just stick with the existing genuine battery -- its 47 second runtime should be enough time for AC loss to trigger a custom script to make it hibernate.

[-] Nalivai@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

You can get lucky, some of the aftermarket stuff works
