Shoe just shits on people for engagement. She doesnt have any core belief other than "I am the smartest one in the room"

[-] OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 15 points 2 weeks ago

She definitely made a name for herself based on criticizing vocal minorities in groups, but 1. This is a joke Tweet and 2. Her core beliefs are actually leftist which seems to scare Democrats

[-] Toneswirly@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago

Leftist? Her most recent video is her shitting on women as a whole group and straw-manning "dating strategies" as a way to drive more chauvinistic engagement. And the "its just a joke bro" defense is so hackneyed im surprised to hear anyone trot it out in good faith.

[-] Zanshi@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

You are aware you can be a leftist and still make fun of ridiculous people?

[-] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 weeks ago

But this is very obviously a joke. It's making fun of people who say the same thing about women. It isn't a Schrodinger's Douchebag situation, she's clearly joking whether you like the joke or not.

[-] OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

So hypothetically, if I supported Bernie Sanders, voted Hillary Clinton and Biden, plan to vote Democrats in 2028, but make a video strawmanning women, am I alt-right?

[-] Toneswirly@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

Now youre saying alt right but im just saying shes no leftist. Dont put words in my mouth

[-] RustyShackleford@programming.dev 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Ah yes, the "No True Leftist". One of my favorite purity tests.

[-] essell@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, I agree. It's totally unfair to tell someone else who they are or what they believe, like you're the judge of such things.

[-] Aggravationstation@feddit.uk 27 points 2 weeks ago

Can someone please enlighten an ignorant Brit on why people are commenting about leftists and Democrats in response to a screenshot of a somewhat lame joke about 40k?

[-] MrMcGasion@lemmy.world 36 points 2 weeks ago

The user who tweeted the take is a political commentator, or maybe influencer would be a better term. There's a Wikipedia page about her that explains it better than I can.

Basically she rose to fame as an anti-feminist during Gamergate, but kinda also seems to have progressive views on some other topics which have given her a weird platform because basically no matter what side of the political spectrum they're on there's something for anyone to agree with her on, and something they'd want to cancel her over.

Everything is political now, haven’t you heard? The sun is woke and the moon is a nazi.

[-] match@pawb.social 14 points 2 weeks ago

this is insane. the sun is a nazi, the moon is a woke antifa womynista

The OP in the Tweet, Sh0eOnHead (https://www.youtube.com/user/Shoe0nHead), is a Youtuber who claims to be leftist but spends half her time dismantling leftist talking points. It makes a lot of people very polarized about her.

[-] Takumidesh@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

I dunno, that sounds pretty on par for leftist online discourse.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

“I’m a democrat/liberal, but…” is a tried and true method of conservative dismantling liberal talking points. Sure, as liberals we are far more openly critical of our leadership than conservatives are of theirs, and we regularly voice those concerns. But that isn’t our entire discourse, and we just as openly support liberal policy and leadership where it’s deserved. If someone's entire schtick revolves around criticizing democrats or liberal policy without supporting good policy or people, they’re not liberal. They’re just a waste of time.

[-] OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago

I agree with what you said but it doesn't apply to Sh0eOnHead, she does spend time talking about real leftist politicians and policies

[-] Wanpieserino@lemm.ee 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

That actually makes me like her. Being critical of your own views.

Nothing more that I despise than people who choose a side of an argument just because it's "their side". Have a back bone. It's okay to switch sides on certain subjects. Being an extremist is being a moron.

[-] OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 16 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Dang, this thread is proof that leftists who criticize the Democrats will be labeled alt-right

[-] frezik@midwest.social 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

It helps when there's some obvious consistency to your beliefs. I've shat on Dems a lot since the last election, both here and on Bluesky, and mostly get upvotes and likes for it.

[-] anonproxy00@lemm.ee 12 points 2 weeks ago

shoe is proof the left grifts too. fuck shoe.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

The alt-right is "left" now?

[-] duckythescientist@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 weeks ago

It's it a grift if she actually believes what she says? I get the vibe from her that she's sincere but has a bunch of bad opinions and isn't smart or introspective enough to realize or at least realize quickly.

[-] latenightnoir 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I'd say we can safely count it as a grift if someone gets paid for spreading inaccuracies, which then motivates them to not bother correcting themselves, yes.

[-] florencia 3 points 2 weeks ago

Proof is not needed that a human will grift. Babies already display knowledge of unfairness among their daycare classmates.#

[-] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 10 points 2 weeks ago

Wait that doesn't make sense. Warhammer 40k minis are cool, and she is not.

Playing tank & mech battles with grown men is interesting, and she is not.

Is she implying that men aren't interested in anything? Including women? Because I find women very interesting. I might be single, but that's because right now I'd rather paint minis and work out then have conversations with a shoe.

[-] OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 15 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

She's showing the double standard that (some) men believe women don't have hobbies

[-] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 6 points 2 weeks ago

You gotta be shitting me.

There are men who believe women don't have hobbies?

[-] i_dont_want_to 12 points 2 weeks ago

Yes, seriously. They think that women will only engage in something to get male attention. Makeup and fashion? They do it to be beautiful and to impress men. Sports and video games and other hobbies men might like? They're faking it, to impress men. (Women must prove they have genuine interest usually by naming off facts or other tasks.)

It used to be a lot worse, but that attitude is still there.

[-] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

So like these guys clearly don't have grandma's that quilt, or crosstich or paint, or play old people sports?

It explains the rise of male toxicity. No grandma to teach 'em to be kind.

[-] frezik@midwest.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

They literally do not think of quilting or crossstich and such as hobbies. They're not "important" like woodworking or rebuilding engines.

This is why STEAM (STEM + arts) is important.

[-] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Jesus. So I talked with my Dad, cause I literally had no idea about this.

He said exactly this: "Then I think your mom and I did a pretty good job raising you. Yeah. What they really believe is that women can't have anything. Independence, rights, careers, hobbies, property, education, anything but a husband, children, and chores."

I knew about the remainder of the stuff, but hobbies seems so impossible to prevent. How would someone not get bored to death without them?

I know a few women who don't. They tend to be the workaholic types who go home at 10pm to a lean cuisine and a Netflix subscription. I know a few men I can describe similarly.
