Donald Trump critics aimed ridicule at the president after he publicly demanded the removal of his portrait at Colorado’s state capitol building, calling it “truly the worst”.

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Trump shared an image of the portrait and complained about the painting, saying it was bad and blaming it on Colorado’s governor, Jared Polis – whom the president insulted as being “radically left”.

A Republican admirer of Trump actually commissioned the portrait.

IT'S NOT OKAY DAD!

[-] frezik@midwest.social 41 points 1 day ago

I don't think it's very good, and it's in a style I don't care for. It's not that bad, though, and looks better than Trump himself.

[-] Airowird@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

It looks more like Xonald.

[-] NotLemming@lemm.ee 33 points 1 day ago

Its flattering compared to how he looks in photos. They smoothed his wrinkles out.

[-] courageousstep@lemm.ee 22 points 1 day ago

Thank you for the head-on image of the painting.

It just looks like…a painting, rather than a photo. His face is a little broad (not chubby, just stretched horizontally), but that literally doesn’t matter?? It’s a painting. Not everyone can pull off (or even wants) photorealism in art.

Wow Boomhauer got fat

[-] DharkStare@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

It doesn't even look that bad. I don't know what he's complaining about

[-] ech@lemm.ee 7 points 1 day ago

It's called negging. They think if you insult someone's effort for you, they'll just try to please you more. And they're so fucked in the head, they fall for it themselves.

Except he's trying to blame Democrats in the state government, who had nothing to do with the painting. There's no guile here, it's just him being a crazy asshole as usual.

[-] uberdroog@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Did they just dr up some old Hillary stuff again?

[-] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 84 points 1 day ago

First of all, Streisand effect. I'd never heard of this portrait but now I had to look it up.

Second, it's not great but it's way better looking that his raggedy orange face. He should shut up and take the win.

  • Looks like shit, remove this portrait immediately!

  • The portrait is on the other wall, Mister President, that one is a mirror.

The utter stupidity continues to astound me.

Its designed to distract you from the fact that Hegseth texted an Atlantic reporter the complete war plans for attacking the Yemen rebels.

Like everything, man. Weapons, time, place, personal involved, the whole schmear.

[-] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

how convenient for him to do this at the same time that was leaked. all these gaffes are all over reddit, and they dont realize its just a distraction. when the epstein files were getting more news attention, he had to pull off so many "trump did this stupid thing and this thing" the MSMS are totally complicit.

[-] courageousstep@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

Ah, this makes sense. Wow, the incompetence astounds.

lol, I had forgotten about that one. Gave me a good chuckle.

[-] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

Here I thought the portrait would be some grotesque caricature of trump. Imagine my surprise when its just a tasteful painting of an old man in a business suit. Is it possible trump doesn't actually know he's an 80 year old man, and looks like one?

"...whom the president insulted as being 'radically left'"

Where's the insult?

[-] WatDabney@fedia.io 14 points 1 day ago

Just another day in the life of the Toddler-in-chief.

[-] fakeman_pretendname@feddit.uk 7 points 1 day ago

"Truly the worst"? Really that's the worst painting of you that you can imagine?

Hahahaha.

Gets paint brushes out...

[-] argh_another_username@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Am I the only one that thinks it looks like Barron?

[-] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Someone needs to take a good straight-on shot of it to upload to the Internet before it disappears.
