1 in 5 people voted for the current nazi party in Germany a couple of weeks ago so... meh

What I wouldn't give for if only 1 in 5 voted for the nazi party in America.

We had 84ish% participation US had 64%ish(?) Additionally we had 29% for conservatives, which would be the people in the US voting rep eventhough they would not admit to directly supporting Trump. The gap is smaller than it seems, though plurality in the political system (multiple parties, not winner takes it all) relaxes the situation quite a bit.

Waaaay better.

[-] suction@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Yes, but those people know better than to tell their co-workers or friends (and even families) that they did, because they'd be treated like the fucking imbeciles they are. Compare that to the US where the MAGAs are the loudest, most outspoken fuckos of all who can't stop advertising their idotic evilness with hats, megaphones, and internet opinions. That's a world apart from what is happening in Germany - so far.

The remaining parties are arresting Jews for antisemitism so its worse than that.

French train for some reason.

[-] suction@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

I know right, why couldn't they find a German train munching on hay??

[-] kspatlas@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

I'm actually learning German so the memes are now a test of my German knowledge

This is a traditional carnival wagon. this does not mean we have a spine.

[-] ProfessorBashington@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago

The German government is one of the most suppressive in the western world in regards to protests against a literal genocide happening right now in Gaza. A genocide legally labeled as such by institutions erected as a result of Germany's genocide. Branding wise, Germany is extremely progressive, but in principle and practice, it is extremely sad to see how little Germany has come along.

[-] miss_demeanour@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 year ago

That applies to all G7.

Germany's AfD is the second biggest party.

[-] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 1 year ago

And the biggest party is the CDU which also hates brown people, women and queers.

Except Israel, of course

[-] epicstove@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 year ago

The line "Grease the guillotine with the tyrants fat" from Heckerlied seems REALLY fitting here.

[-] Ilixtze@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

The memory of the smell of broiling pork rinds came to me immediately!

[-] UltraMagnus0001@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Funny how Isreal and Germany switched roles.

[-] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

no

Israel didn't exist yet during WW2, it was just a British colony. Now it's an independent state, and still perpetuates colonialism against arabs. No role switched at any point.

Germany is the second biggest supporter of Israel right after the US. They didn't switch with Israel, they are firmly on the same side.

[-] iamai@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

I think the person you replied to meant in terms of persecution. Germany went after the Jews now they're against that ideology. We see the current Jewish area that is Israel persecuting others. Role reversal, you would think they would treat others better after everything but that's not the case!

And I got downvoted to oblivion for saying Germans know how to deal with Nazis, lol

[-] assassinatedbyCIA@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

They just back them in the middle east.

[-] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

They do need a very large pine tree trunk. Stick it up the pre-lubed asshole. Then just push until it rips a hole between the legs. Lol. Terrible. I need to go do something. As I understand this week he laid waste to the department of edumakation. Anything else? Nuked the moon? Sunk the Mexican fishing fleet? Killed all orcas? Ran over his own puppy's leg, chopped it off, then ran over the other three? I'd believe anything now.

[-] tdawg@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

There's no way this is real

[-] smokinliver@sopuli.xyz 18 points 1 year ago

There is more than one way this is real.

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 year ago

There's some parade in Germany that uses these kinds of floats but I dunno what it's called

thats a interesting twist on the Dolchstoßlegende - but this time it's not a cowardly lie to kill jews, but a commentary on actually happening politics. And all that because the Ukraine didn't want to fabricate dirt against Hunter Biden for Orange Mussolini

[-] Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

It is real. You may also want to image search “Lewes bonfire float” to see something similar that happens across the water in England every year.

[-] MBM@lemmings.world 3 points 1 year ago

I'm honestly confused why this wouldn't be real, this is just standard carnival stuff
