Stop labeling Canada as a future member of the EU. It will never happen. The canadian population do not know that they will lose many things, such as their own currency. They just know that the EU is a free trade zone and a defense partnership.

You can be EU Member with your own currency πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

[-] NewDay@feddit.org 1 points 13 hours ago

They have to work to fulfill all requirements to adopt the Euro. Juncker in 17 β€œI have no intention of forcing countries to join the euro if they are not willing or not able to do so”. He softened the politics about the currency. There will be a President of the European Commission who will not be so kind and soft. Ursula von der Leyen did not talk about this politics at all.

@LongestPath I wonder, why boycott everything? Should the people who suffer under #Trump be punished too? Seems like strange nationalist rhetoric to #BuyFromEU.

I mean I agree to boycott big business, especially big tech and everything owned by billionaires. It's just that a lot of European brands are owned by billionaires too who are just as bad, they just didn't explicitly get handed the keys to the government (yet).

I see your point, however, imo, buyers in EU can signal (with their purchases) that Trump's words/actions have real (financial) consequences, and then those EU/US billionaires (who are benefiting from cross continent trade) would pressure him to stop doing what he is doing...

[-] Mysterious_Tea@feddit.org 4 points 6 hours ago

Do not draw parallelisms with Trump's newnazi regime and Europe. Here we do not allow big tech to enter government and make nazi salutes.

As a democracy voted, the US voted for Trump - this is exactly what was signposted in Project 2025 & his campaign trails. We've another 4 years of this tariff bullshit, and his threats to annex Canada / Greenland, and him siding with Putin.

This isn't punishment, this is the EU not siding with the bullies. If you don't like the situation, use your power as a US voter and make your voice heard.

You've absolutely got a point about billionaires. None of them should be trusted. But right now the biggest threat are the billionaires controlling social media + tech, which are predominantly US based.

As a democracy

That's an exaggeration.

the US voted for Trump

Yup.

We've another 4 years of this tariff bullshit, and his threats to annex Canada / Greenland, and him siding with Putin.

That may be pessimistic (as he may die first) or optimistic (as he may not allow another election - he is already talking about next term).

This isn't punishment, this is the EU not siding with the bullies

Yup.

Georgia is a Russian bitch at the moment (not Belarus tier but moving in that direction).

[-] Successful_Try543@feddit.org 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Also, according to this comment it's likely Georgia in US producing pecans, not Georgia in the Caucasus mountains.

[-] Lemmist@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

That would be strange: why replace USA with another part of the USA?

[-] Successful_Try543@feddit.org 4 points 1 day ago

Exactly. Georgia (US) was mistaken for Georgia (Europe).

[-] JackbyDev@programming.dev 2 points 10 hours ago

US Georgian here. I can confirm we have a lot of pecans. I even have a pecan tree in my yard.

[-] Lemmist@lemm.ee 6 points 1 day ago

That's sad and show the overall quality of the list.

Would be really happy if Canada was a future EU member 🀞 but this doesn't instill much confidence https://www.politico.eu/article/canadians-want-join-european-union-will-never-happen-paula-pinho/ πŸ˜”

[-] Mysterious_Tea@feddit.org 2 points 14 hours ago

EU was created to prevent future wars in the European continent, and several countries like Morocco or Turkey were rejected on simple geographical ground.

It’s not a bandwagon where every guy scared of Trump can join.

[-] OccamsRazer@lemmy.world 1 points 20 hours ago

Yes, boycott the united states to support... Iran?

[-] FelixCress@lemmy.world 2 points 38 minutes ago

Because that's the only choice, yes? πŸ™„
