Still using Sync here, what exactly am I missing out on? Tried voyager years ago but coming from Reddit and using Sync for that, it was a pretty natural jump.

[-] DarkSirrush@lemmy.ca 45 points 1 week ago

It hasn't been updated in quite awhile, and I have heard some Lemmy features are still broken - I think some types of inline images and markdown mainly, and some upcoming api changes may break it completely in the nearish future.

Here is a comment I made in a relevant thread, where they discuss sync (here: https://lemmy.world/comment/14130358)

As someone who used sync on reddit for many years, I switched to Summit a few weeks ago and it's great. This post comparing a lot of lemmy apps made me finally take the plunge: https://lemmy.world/post/18159531

TLDR: A lot of formatting is messed up on sync.

[-] Pavidus@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

I was in the same boat; I've been using sync for years. Recently, I've definitely noticed issues with certain instances and comment sections. Search was also completely broken. According to what I've read, it appears to be a version mismatch issue. Since sync hasn't been updated in a year, I've cancelled my subscription and moved over to Summit.

There are literally three of us!

(or so it seems from these threads)

Me too but it's semi-broken right now and hasn't had an update in a long time. I really don't want to switch, though.

[-] spirinolas@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

Semi-broken? It seems to be working fine for me. Am I missing something?

[-] CidVicious@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 week ago

There's a major incompatibility with newer versions of the Lemmy software where Sync shows a comment count but cannot display the comments. So at the moment I can't see any comments from posts hosted on sh.itjust.works. I know that there's other less severe issues too (I think spoilers are semi-broken in some instances).

I finally uninstalled it the other day. It's clear the dev has abandoned it.

I've been using connect and it's pretty great!

It has been great and is the UI that I want to use however it has slowly been slipping downhill over the last year and a half. That last update from this week has fucked more things than it fixed and introduced new issues as well.

I want it to be great. I want it to work properly but the dev is barely active popping in every 6 months or so to drop an update that might make it better but probably make it worse. It was a better app experience 18 months ago, that's for sure.

I've moved over to trying Voyager because of all this and it is the closest to connect I can find so far.

Still hanging out here via Jeroba.

Thunder is my preferred client, with jerboa being second

Honestly thunder is perfect aside from being a tad slow to load sometimes. And it seems to have a little more tendency to experience network issues, but the UI is everything I could ask for

Jerboa might be my favorite if it showed full size link previews since I usually engage visually before I engage with text

[-] flamingos@feddit.uk 11 points 1 week ago

Yeah, one of the big fears with moving to a small platform like Lemmy was that the apps wouldn't be nearly as good the Reddit ones, but Thunder is just genuinely fantastic.

[-] Vespair@lemm.ee 8 points 1 week ago

Another endorsement of Thunder here. Just works, no bloat.

[-] rmtworks@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago

Memmy was how I first got into Lemmy. Feels bad that it doesn’t exist anymore.

[-] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 week ago

I can't believe it's now gone. It was the best ios app that existed back then.

[-] TowardsTheFuture@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 week ago

Wait what I’m sitting here using Memmy lol. I guess I should move on? Why is it dead?

[-] minticecream@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago
[-] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 week ago

It hasn't been updated in a while though it might work okay on the older instances like baraza.africa

[-] rmtworks@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

IIRC it isn’t being updated anymore, the App Store listing is gone. I remember the devs posting something about burnout in the past and I’m assuming they didn’t have the time and energy to keep going on it.

[-] BossDj@lemm.ee 24 points 1 week ago

I notice there are only 5 gravestones because Sync is just mysteriously vanished, possibly not dead

[-] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 week ago

That's accurate since Sync could come back with an large update since the last patch was on Mar 26, 2024.

[-] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago

Mlem is alive and kicking!

[-] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 week ago

We haven't received a stable update in a while but the github repository has been very busy for the final push towards 2.0! The last commit was 5 hours ago 🔥

[-] joelfromaus@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago

I’m pretty keen to see how 2.0 shapes up. I’ve been waiting for stable release before jumping across.

Boost was more recently updated on July 14, 2024.

[-] Jesus_666@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

I'm still using it. Now, some activity would be very much appreciated. Or, if there is no new development, the source code. But it's still the app I prefer to use.

[-] CaptainBasculin@lemmy.bascul.in 21 points 1 week ago

Boost was my favourite client to use back on the reddit days. I migrated to lemmy before boost was announced for lemmy, but man it's a big help having it.

Eternity (infinity fork) is still around, but I've been using voyager myself.

[-] YarrMatey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 week ago

Been using Summit, good so far.

[-] silly_crotch@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 week ago

Summit crew too!!! I like being niche

[-] polysics@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Came here to say this

[-] crawancon@lemm.ee 15 points 1 week ago

Eternity has been great all year.

i was a baconreader guy for the loooongest time.

[-] RageAgainstTheRich@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

I actually found out about this a few days ago. I suddenly kept getting errors and found out the app i used, Boost, hadn't been updated in almost a year... Now running Voyager. How did i not notice? No idea.
