Summary

Donald Trump has amended his lawsuit against CBS, doubling the damages sought to $20 billion.

He also added Texas Congressman Ronny Jackson, his former White House doctor, as a co-plaintiff to keep the suit before a Trump-appointed judge in Texas.

He claims CBS deceptively edited Kamala Harris’ “60 Minutes” interview to make her appear more coherent, allegedly influencing the 2024 election and harming his Truth Social platform.

Filed in Texas, the suit alleges violations of the Lanham Act and Texas consumer protection laws.

CBS argues that the Lanham Act and Texas statute only govern commercial speech, not political or editorial speech, and has moved to dismiss the lawsuit.

You fucking idiots.

The instant you bought into it, you signed up for this. He's going to keep fucking with you. The day after you pay, he's going to be fucking with you again. The FCC's going to pull your license. He's going to sue you again for something you allegedly did in 2014. It'll never stop, until you actually stand up for yourself.

And now you're out $15 million, for nothing. You got nothing at all for it.

[-] rowrowrowyourboat@sh.itjust.works 73 points 1 year ago

ABC paid $15 million, as far as I know CBS hasn't paid anything yet.

[-] PhilipTheBucket@ponder.cat 67 points 1 year ago

Oh, you're right. CBS was the one that provided transcripts to the FCC when they didn't need to.

I still maintain that they are idiots. Fight back, man. That's the way.

[-] billiam0202@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

CBS isn't going to fight back, because they still want regulatory approval to be bought out by Skydance.

It's why they started appeasing him in the first place.

[-] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

$20 billion, though? That definitely changes the calculus.

It's like mob tactics, once you pay for protection they'll just keep coming back asking for more until you're bled dry, then they'll dispose of you.

The difference being, the Bamboo Lounge didn't really have a choice. CBS does, they're just too craven to take it.

Watch this case get a totally bogus ruling from Trump's pet judge only to see CBS settle before any appeals court can smack it down. This whole thing that Republicans have created enabling them to pick their judge as long as a suit is filed in the correct zip code is ridiculous.

[-] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 6 points 1 year ago

We really need to get some judges who will reliably rule against fascists. We can't get new judges, so I wonder how many liberal judges could be persuaded that cock blocking Republicans is a higher calling right now than impartiality is.

He also added Texas Congressman Ronny Jackson, his former White House doctor, as a co-plaintiff to keep the suit before a Trump-appointed judge in Texas.

All the merits of this aside, this is some hilarious banana republic nonsense right there. You absolutely should not be able to file in bumfuck, Texas any time you need a lunatic judge to make an insane ruling, and any judge appointed by the fucking plaintiff should recuse themselves and be disbarred if they don't.

Joke of a judicial system.

[-] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Well, it's been that way for quite a while.

[-] shplane@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

And it’s been a joke the whole time. The only difference now is no one’s been this blatant with their abuse of the judicial system

[-] lolcatnip@reddthat.com 7 points 1 year ago

The fascists have gotten so much mileage out of exploiting problems in our government that everyone has known about for decades but that nobody ever bothered to fix.

[-] nomy@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 year ago

Well someone has to look dignified and stately as Rome burns!

[-] teft@lemmy.world 72 points 1 year ago

See what happens when you capitulate to a bully? He doesn’t stop bullying. He pushes more and bullies harder. The only way to stop a bully is to (metaphorically) punch him in his mouth.

[-] Heikki@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

Just wait til Pam Bondi decides to take the case up as a federal matter and use federal funds for the thinnest, orange skinned ass lawsuit

Absolute gold right here:

her habit of uttering ‘word salads’ — i.e., jumbles of exceptionally incoherent speech..."

Is this projection or is he too dumb to understand what she says?

[-] Snapz@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

Fascists accuse their enemy of what they are doing so when the tables are turned they call petty retaliation regardless of reality.

[-] kmartburrito@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago

They should tell him to sit and spin on musk's toothpick dick. What a piece of shit human being. His obituary day will be a fantastic day I will celebrate.

[-] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 27 points 1 year ago

So, can she then sue him over the Joe Rogan interview?

The bills might just cancel each other out.

For reference, $20B is just over the entire market cap of CBS's parent company.

[-] kikutwo@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

Yes Cheeto, she couldn't possibly be actually coherent because she graduated from law school huh?

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

You see, anyone who is of a certain type that got a law degree only got it because of DEI. There! Conservatives now have permission to ignore those credentials entirely, unless they are the right type of people.

[-] njm1314@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

I saw this amazing video from some conservative talk person breaking down all the Terrible Things in this CBS raw footage. It was so hilariously nothing. Like the entirety of it was look she pauses here so that they can edit in the picture of the interviewer asking the question. That was the whole thing. Like just normal editing techniques. I wasn't expecting much, but good God something at least.

[-] hypeerror@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 year ago

You can't end this with appeasement.

[-] Critical_Thinker@lemm.ee 13 points 1 year ago

allegedly influencing the 2024 election

Where are the damages again?

[-] Nasan@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

Not winning with 500% of the votes he claimed he would per his wager with Putin, who won with a modest 230%.

[-] MothmanDelorian@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

isn’t that more than twice his net worth?
