You could say the same about ACABers suddenly becoming fans of police brutality 😏

[-] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 72 points 1 week ago

"You say you wish you could cure heart disease, yet you cheer it on when it kills Henry Kissinger. Curious."

[-] ricdeh@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

No, ACAB is not a reasonable worldview in the first place. It's very ignorant and intolerant. A society needs police, and most policepeople are good and sincere human beings.

[-] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 26 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Hey Dick, can I call you Dick? So, Dick, the problem people have with the police is summed up like this: We are tired of the jackboots not being accountable for their crimes against humanity.

That clear enough for you Dick?

[-] remer@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

You deescalate just as effectively as most police. I’m sure your addition to the discourse will help to bring people towards your viewpoint.

[-] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Edit: my previous comment wasn't de-escalation, it was bringing them up to speed in a way that would grab their attention. Seems like it ruffled your feathers as well.

GOOD.

[-] AlexanderTheDead@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

You have a fundamental misunderstanding.

The philosophy behind ACAB is that the American police system and its proponents abuse the system and work to keep each other from facing consequences. "Good cops" may enter the force, but they don't last long, because those who don't play along and look the other way eventually get ousted, whereas those they tattled on get rehired at a different station.

The idea isn't that literally all cops ever will always be bastards. It's that (under the current system) all cops are bastards.

[-] Halosheep@lemm.ee 16 points 1 week ago

The point of ACAB is to claim that ALL police are bastards because they all allow some to be as bad as they are. Everyone is aware there are good people.

They are in a position of power and thus should be capable using that power for self governance. Except, they don't. How often does a cop blatantly break the law and murder a civilian with no repercussions? If they are going to investigate themselves and find no wrongdoing and never improve, then ACAB.

[-] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 week ago

Police actions are the sole reason for the loss of trust. It's accelerated recently because we've all got what would once have been a godlike camera in our pockets now and the means to share those videos globally.

Don't worry, Trump will get around to fucking that up too.

[-] solarvector@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 1 week ago

Advocate of the police state gets killed by the police state.

Critics of the police state pointing and laughing doesn't mean they're suddenly fans.

[-] Cargon@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 week ago

My thoughts and prayers go out to the bullets' families.

[-] AlexanderTheDead@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

Not really. We all still recognize that a police officer murdering someone is fundamentally bad.

Just because people are glad that a violent, brainwashed magat died bleeding in the street doesn't mean they think it's okay that the system allowed for it.

Are you familiar with "even a broken clock is right once a day"?

Lol.

[-] otp@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 week ago

I'm not sure why the downvotes. The meme could literally have two buttons that say "ACAB" and "Justice is served" and it'd have the same effect.

The story is ironic. That's why the meme works. There can be conflicted feelings all around.

[-] PrettyFlyForAFatGuy@feddit.uk 14 points 1 week ago

A someone can be a bastard and still deliver justice occasionally.

[-] otp@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

Ironic doesn't mean mutually exclusive.

Some versions of the meme have a third panel with the superhero guy pushing both buttons.

[-] Naia 14 points 1 week ago

Ah, good old "both sides" argument. Half the reason we are in this mess.

I've no love lost for cops, but I also have no sympathy left in me while I wonder if I'm going to be able to keep my job, access healthcare, and generally exist as myself in society without someone decided to attack me. Fuck him, fuck the cop. There are no innocents in this story.

So I'm going to take some catharsis in that one of the people who would likely have murdered me or anyone like me in the future is gone.

ACABers suddenly becoming fans of police brutality

It's just two fascists trying to kill one another.

[-] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 week ago

Not me. I still want a bodycam. And am still disgusted that the person checking for police wrongdoing will just be... the police.

a nazi killing a nazi is a good thing

[-] cupcakezealot 7 points 1 week ago

Not having empathy for a horrible person != being a fan of police brutality (which it wasn't even police brutality)

[-] samus12345@lemm.ee 7 points 1 week ago

Just leopards eating faces.

[-] resin85@lemmy.ca 41 points 1 week ago

This is the type of criminal the trump pardoned, absolutely disgusting.

On August 24, 2009, Huttle's three-year-old son, C.H., had a bathroom accident, and Huttle beat the child, leaving bruises on his neck and severe bruises on his back and buttocks.

Clearly the solution is to ban trans people from peeing at the mall

[-] Tarogar@feddit.org 41 points 1 week ago

Nothing of value was lost...

And the entire world collectively whispers under their breath, "Good."

[-] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 37 points 1 week ago

Wow, cops actually shot someone deserving of it. What's the score looking like now?

[-] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 1 week ago

Somewhere in the negative multi-millions, if history serves. Still.

[-] Ghyste@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 week ago

Friendly fire.

[-] Zier@fedia.io 17 points 1 week ago

I love these "feel good" stories.

I read "Indian man" at first and thought there's no way that Trump would pardon

[-] Ceedoestrees@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

If the cop loses their job over this, it's like two birds with one bullet.

Lol imagine that cop gets murdered by another Magat, then cops shoot that Magat, and the cycle repeat.

[-] khannie@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

What the fuck is wrong with the people doing all the gloating?

A man was killed resisting arrest and you're all here cheering for it because he was previously imprisoned?

Yes they were insurrectionists. Prison time? Sure. Death for resisting arrest? Get a grip.

[-] Naia 29 points 1 week ago

After a week of bad news after bad news where I am both fearful for my job and very right to exist in the country, quite frankly, I couldn't care less about your moral grandstanding. This guy tried to overthrow democracy for a man who is currently doing a speed-run of fascism.

He should still be rotting in prison, instead a criminal was released into the streets by the party of "law and order" for political reasons. And while I have no love lost for cops, this guy getting shot is anything but a tragedy.

Fuck him, fuck Trump, fuck republicans, and fuck anyone who has sympathy for these monsters. These people want me dead for trying to be comfortable in my own skin. I will wish the worst on every last one of them because I know what they want to do to me and I'm tired of people using kid gloves when talking about these people.

[-] samus12345@lemm.ee 19 points 1 week ago

A man was killed resisting arrest and you’re all here cheering for it because he was previously imprisoned?

No. I'm cheering for it because he was a violent MAGA shithead. Fuck all of 'em.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

Sometimes it's objectively a good thing when a bad person kicks the bucket.

But I agree on one point: ACAB

He was a horrible person. From a previous arrest:

On August 24, 2009, Huttle‟s three-year-old son, C.H., had a bathroom accident, and Huttle beat the child, leaving bruises on his neck and severe bruises on his back and buttocks.
