A politician from one of the modern countries that still imprisons people for lese-majesty wants to end social media anonymity? Sounds like a great idea!

[-] sprack@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

That would definitely help kill social media.

Individual privacy cannot be infringed. The measures against corporations are a good idea. The rest are only good for official accounts so public officials cannot be impersonated. For private individuals, accountability only needs to happen when they enact violence.

Typical politician, identifies the problem only to draw the absolute wrong conclusion.

The same as a firearms registry keeps guns out of the hands of criminals?

Yeah, tell him all the ways that would be dangerous.

You won't stop any crime or even any hurt feelings by doing that. You're only going to punish people who are following the law.

Criminals can fake their details

I've always thought thered be some benefit to this but only as an optional government funded app.

there's no benefit to any common man.

There's only benefit to the advertising companies and governments around the world.

It's a little something called "total information awareness" they want to know who everyone is and what they're doing at every second of every day

I think humanity as a whole needs to get and stay really really high.
