This idiot seems to be oblivious to the fact that there is no official language in the US, that several US states have Spanish as a defacto co-official language, that Spanish has been spoken in many parts of the US for longer than English, and that there are approx. 60.000.000 Spanish speakers in the US.

A problem here is that since he can't be re-elected, he doesn't have to care about popularity, except for his ego trips.

It doesn't matter. Nothing matters. "Small government and low taxes" but when you want to triple the size of ICE and institute historic tariffs (aka taxes) it's OK. "Party of law and order" but when you don't let asylum seekers into the country- overtly breaking US law, it's OK. "The constitution is sacred" but when you sign an executive order that explicitly contradicts the 14th amendment- it's OK.

Nothing matters. There is no consistency whatsoever. There doesn't need to be. The more disjointed, the better. You make people so disoriented that they'll accept anything.

His Latino vote hurt themselves in their confusion

[-] zbyte64@awful.systems 14 points 1 day ago

People don't choose to be dumb or confused. 😔

Willful ignorance is when people choose to be ignorant, which often leads to confusion.

[-] zbyte64@awful.systems 1 points 13 hours ago

Is it willful when it is the easiest option to be misinformed?

[-] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

Yes, because ease or difficulty is not relevant. The choice is.

It’s not as if the conservative native Spanish speakers that voted him in were using it for anything.

[-] hperrin@lemmy.ca 24 points 1 day ago

He can barely speak English.

The Biden website was essentially just archived and the new administration is working on building up the site. This isn't something specific, almost all the old website links are broken.

“It’s day two. We are in the process of developing, editing and tweaking the White House website. As part of this ongoing work, some of the archived content on the website went dormant. We are committed to reloading that content in a short timeline,” -Harrison Fields

Everything is archived here: https://bidenwhitehouse.archives.gov/

That's the part where I'm divided. On the one hand, I understand that they basically have to strip the website down to the basic foundation then rebuild it. On the other hand... I'm not entirely sold that when it returns it will have all of the things it once had. Only time will tell I guess.

[-] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

We know from Trump's first four years that taking stuff down he doesn't personally like is permanent. He ditched pages on climate change and LGBTQ+ rights and those pages for example.

[-] TurtleSoup@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

Hence why I say that I'm not sold on the idea that they will be coming back... Cautious optimism maybe but I won't be holding my breathe.

[-] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

There is zero reason to be optimistic about the decisions of fhe Trump administration.

My only optimism is about bureaucracy and legal challenges getting in the way of the administration'a attempts to break everything.

[-] TurtleSoup@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago

You're probably right. I'm just "huffing copium" as the kids say I guess. Already bad enough struggling with anxiety and depression this whole ordeal just exacerbates it so I'm doing what I can to not be completely defeatist/doomer about it. Keyword is trying. So far I'm not doing so hot.

If you have any belief that any of this stuff will be returning, I have beachfront property on Mars that you may be interested in.

[-] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I mean every administration rebuilds the entire website after inauguration. I think it's telling, though, that they didn't have the full website ready to go.

[-] bufalo1973@lemm.ee 0 points 15 hours ago

So the Trump team didn't have even a WIP site to replace as fast as possible the old site?

All these lightning round decisions, I find myself asking, "How does this help anyone?"

[-] Walk_blesseD 7 points 1 day ago

Where have you been living the last nine years? This isn't about helping people, the point is cruelty.

[-] NineMileTower@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

No shit. They just didn't have to lie about it anymore.

[-] Walk_blesseD 1 points 1 day ago

Well, you asked.

[-] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

He’s swinging his hate-balls around.
