Genuine question.

My post had -15 votes on that instance for asking if a user can get banned on Reddit because he banned me on a sub just for speaking Russian

Whining about downvotes gets you an automatic downvote.

Asking how to evade a ban is asshole behaviour and gets you a downvote.

Expecting people to give a shit about reddit gets you a downvote

Dragging your reddit grievances in here and expecting people to take your side gets you a downvote

Nobody cares about forum drama on another fucking platform, especially one they joined lemmy to get away from.

Did you read the rules of that community?

[-] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 7 points 6 hours ago

W.r.t. Reddit specifically... a lot of people fucking hate Reddit and would rather not help you use that platform - that likely attracted a fair number of downvotes.

More generally, you're asking if another platform can do X - yes they can, they're another platform... we're not the deciders of what Reddit can and can't do.

Additionally, I personally, at least, hate commenting on questions about bans or evading bans because sometimes bans are well deserved and I'll never know enough about the situation to be comfortable giving actual advice.

Lastly, I think a fair number of users prefer nice open ended questions and that one isn't really beneficial to the community to spur an interesting discussion... instead it feels more like something a websearch would give you relatively reasonable answers without requiring time or effort from other lemmings.

Oh... and this question is being downvoted because discussions of downvotes are boring and karma isn't a thing here.

Sorry if these experiences aren't a nice introduction but I think the wider answer is that this community is a mismatch for both your original and follow up question.

One thing I've observed, commenting about downvotes tends to get you downvotes. Did once on a shower thoughts thing I commented on and I edited thinking people where actually pissed, ended up with around 3X as many after the edit. 😄

I would also ban you for writing in a language I can’t comprehend. It’s hard to grasp the nuance when you don’t understand the language, and it’s hard to moderate if you can’t understand the nuance.

[-] ocean@lemmy.selfhostcat.com 1 points 5 hours ago

You would ban because you don’t understand? That’s wild.

[-] galactic 2 points 8 hours ago

Ohh ok, tysm

[-] PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz 1 points 7 hours ago

Wouldn't that be too harsh? They could get a notice, like can you switch to english because of rules?

OP says she got a message that literally said it was because they don’t like Russia/the culture, oddly

Looks like your posts are being downvoted. Yes, downvotes exist in .world.

They are not an attack on you, just on what you said. Just move on, and the next time you want to post something, post it.

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 5 points 7 hours ago

Seems like a self fulfilling prophecy at this point.

This one is getting downvoted because you just reposted the same question.

The last one got downvoted, because your assumption that it has anything to do with instances was wrong.

The one before that was asking how to get around a Reddit ban.

Stop posting stupid shit, and your perspective will change.

[-] galactic 4 points 7 hours ago

you don't have to engage if it's "stupid".

Also, i asked if the sub owner would get banned, not to get around one.

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 4 points 7 hours ago

You asked a question, I gave an answer. Sorry if it didn't make you feel validated enough.

You can tell me I'm wrong and keep asking the same questions and keep getting downvoted or take the new information and learn from it, it's your call.

[-] insomniacalmond 2 points 7 hours ago

OP probably wanted an "unbiased answer", IDK. they shouldn't keep reposting stuff either

[-] galactic 2 points 7 hours ago

maybe you didn't read the whole post, IDK

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Also, I've since discovered that they are a 13 year old girl.

I think this just isn't their target audience.

[-] insomniacalmond 1 points 7 hours ago

Yeah, probably. What communities could they be redirected to?

[-] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

I'm convinced that all of Lemmy is just nerdy liberal middle aged men.

[-] ocean@lemmy.selfhostcat.com 4 points 5 hours ago
