The latest inequality report from the charity reveals that the world is now on track to have five trillionaires within a decade, a change from last year’s forecast of one trillionaire within 10 years.

The report, entitled Takers Not Makers, comes as many of the world’s political leaders, corporate executives and the super-rich travel to the Swiss ski resort of Davos for the annual World Economic Forum meeting from Monday.

Oxfam’s examination of billionaire assets also coincides with Donald Trump’s inauguration as US president. Trump is expected to include several billionaires in his team of close advisers, including the Tesla and SpaceX chief executive, Elon Musk, and to offer large-scale tax breaks to the wealthiest US citizens.

It already has, can't you feel it? It's that warm feeling that starts on your head and drips down.

The top birds look down and see shit. The birds at the bottom look up and see only arseholes.

[-] hungryphrog 6 points 2 years ago

You just summed up thousands of years of how hierarchy and class works and made it about bird shit.

Oh it will start. It will be flood not a trickle.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 30 points 2 years ago

It's going to happen.

Biden could have changed it had he wanted to, but instead, he made sure the wealthy accrued even more power.

Peace out peasants, oh btw there's an oligarchy. Anyway laters.

[-] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 10 points 2 years ago

Ah, what is it you think he could have changed, without Congress? Like, specifically?

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Jesus, there are so many ways.

He could pressured the party to take away Manchin and Sinema's committee assignments. He could have gone after them for insider trading. He could have gone after Manchin's daughter for price gouging insulin, etc. etc. etc.

Instead he (and his lobbyist golf buddies) accrued even more money they'll never actually live to spend anyway and just pretended to be powerless.

He could pressured the party to take away Manchin and Sinema's committee assignments.

This would've just handed control of Congress over to the Republicans due to losing their votes.

He could have gone after them for insider trading.

This would've required an act of Congress, as there's no executive authority regarding such matters.

He could have gone after Manchin's daughter for price gouging insulin,

This might be ethically justified but it's outside the scope of the office of the president.

The only force that creates system change is violence.

Imagine being a billionaire and wanting more wealth. In any other capacity than money, this would scream severe mental health issues. Bring back lobotomies.

[-] namingthingsiseasy@programming.dev 17 points 2 years ago

It's not money they want. It's power. They want global domination. And this is not an exaggeration by any means.

[-] slaacaa@lemmy.world 17 points 2 years ago

What good news for us peasants! Hopefully, Daddy Trump will ensure and even more successful 2025 for our dear overlords

Wouldn't it be hilarious if this ski resort turned out to be a long dormant volcano that suddenly exploded?

I mean, I'd giggle.

[-] TheRealKuni@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Most rich people aren’t billionaires. Most people at a ski resort aren’t the problem.

Wealth, shown to scale

(Just keep scrolling, it’s fascinating.)

The report, entitled [Takers Not Makers](https://www.oxfamamerica.org/explore/research-publications/takers-not-makers/), comes as many of the world’s political leaders, corporate executives and the super-rich travel to the Swiss ski resort of Davos for the annual World Economic Forum meeting from Monday.

Most ski resorts aren't hosting the above, and I'd be shocked if they let normies anywhere near the place while the world's leading sociopaths got together to toast our suffering.

I've scrolled to the end before. Everyone should do it at least once.
