This is false and we know this from the pandemic.

Once you can’t agree on facts, you can’t be right retrospectively.

Millions of people died, if you google US yearly death rate you see a very obvious spike.

To me that is the smoking gun that the pandemic was in fact very deadly.

I haven’t been able to say I told you so to any anti vaxxer.

It’s not about logic, it’s about outrage, and that’s gonna increase moving forward.

Brexit is still delivering all the "I told you so"s. It's less fun than it sounds.

[-] Zorque@lemmy.world 55 points 4 days ago

Yeah, people keep saying "This time they'll see!" But, aside from the occasional "leopards ate my face" moment, the same people keep lining up for more of the same.

And much of the consequences are sloughed off on the people who are fighting hardest against it.

They're fucking around, and we end up finding out.

It's been nearly 10 years and we're still getting fucked by it.

[-] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 15 points 4 days ago

I was in the US for the first trump election and in Britain for Brexit. And now I’m back in the US for this shitshow. It’s like I can’t escape the crazy – it’s following me.

Or maybe it’s all my fault and I’m a bad talisman. I dunno, just please make it stop.

No, it's not going to be "I told you so."

Conservatives will still blame Biden and dems for all the problems.

[-] kautau@lemmy.world 29 points 4 days ago

Yup, they still deflect to Hillary's emails and shit when you call out new cabinet positions. If we could harness their mental gymnastics into physical energy we'd solve the climate crisis.

[-] Preflight_Tomato@lemm.ee 14 points 4 days ago

Over Christmas my mom showed me her new "Lock Her Up!" shirt. It's been almost 10 years since Clinton has been relevant, move on.

Also, there's a lot of people that will say, "don't be mean to them, that never changes their mind!" "talk to them, be empathetic"

Man, anyone suffering after voting for Trump deserves a big "fuck you".

[-] kipo@lemm.ee 20 points 4 days ago

Yeah, I will never forgive a 2024 Trump voter. They know who they voted for, they know who he is. No excuses this time. Trump voters claiming ignorance this time will not be accepted.

[-] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 18 points 4 days ago

Right, there's no satisfaction in pointing out the results of a conservative power grab. Their narcissism makes them immune to introspection or self-awareness.

Yeah. Idk how I feel about this gotcha perspective when trans people and undocumented immigrants are facing state violence on a nearly existential level. Like, is this your response to that? To adopt this smug affect and do nothing? Business as usual for you, I suppose.

You'll have to forgive me for taking this post very literally. I am very scared for what is going to happen to my friends and loved ones in the coming weeks.

I can't imagine the cognitive dissonance these fascists are going to deal with.

[-] COASTER1921@lemmy.ml 12 points 4 days ago

Unfortunately for the majority of them it won't be a problem. He'll perform exactly as desired "owning the libtards" and getting rid of "the immigrants". I wish I had a more optimistic outlook on the next 4yr but frankly we already know how it will go from his last term. At least to an extent.

[-] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 11 points 4 days ago

The "Don't blame us we didn't vote for him" crowd immediately turned around and a day later switched to "It doesn't matter if you voted for him, he's still your president" and didn't miss a step. They are fuckin mental contortionists.

It's been like that for the last 2 months.

Silver lining is that we're looking at a clown-show fascist circus instead of an effective fascist takeover.

[-] groet@infosec.pub 16 points 3 days ago

This might very well not (yet) be the "burning of the reichstag and declaration of the state of emergency" part of the fashist takeover. Trump is incompetent but if he does to much damage the government might just complety collapse and musk and zuck can enact a monarchy.

I am much more afraid of the people in the second row ready to take over than of trump himself.

It's one thing knowing it's going to happen, it's going to be something else entirely when it does.

It's like knowing you're going to die. We all "know" our day is coming, but we don't really appreciate that until we get old or someone close to us passes away.

[-] Malek061@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Since you believe in facts so much, you must agree that during American hegemony the world has never been more prosperous.

[-] Soulg@sh.itjust.works 44 points 4 days ago

"You fuckers asked for this so either shut up or move"

Going to be the only thing keeping me going

[-] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 44 points 4 days ago

I'm buying a bunch of "I did that!" Trump stickers to slap on empty grocery shelves. That's gonna be fun.

[-] Soulg@sh.itjust.works 27 points 4 days ago

Yep those things need to be EVERYWHERE after they had those dumbass Biden ones, and the best part is that this time they'll actually be correct

Four years? In ten years from now, the elections of 2024 will be called the 'Last Elections' and President Musk will arrest people who will call for their return.

[-] rickdg@lemmy.world 23 points 4 days ago

Climate change wasn’t real enough for half the country, so now everyone has to suffer.

Did you tell me that the dems would rather support a genocide than nominate a winning candidate? Cause I agree.

Or do you mean like how trump was supposed to be worse for palestinians than kamalacaust, but then dude got a ceasefire before even taking office? Because I never would've predicted that.

[-] Emerald@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago

dude got a ceasefire before even taking office

Lol Trump was not responsible for the ceasefire. Read the news

[-] Jumpingspiderman@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

If they read the news, they wouldn't post the stupid stuff they post.

Simultaneously 'Trump did not get the ceasefire' and also 'Netanyahu intentionally waited until after Trump won to agree to a ceasefire'

You do know that Trump did the exact opposite, right? He deliberately (and illegally, mind you) pressured Netanyahu not to accept any ceasefire deal until after the election, sacrificing thousands of innocent civilians to make sure he could campaign on the issue.

[-] Zink@programming.dev 4 points 3 days ago

Wow, that would be a really big controversy in a normal world.

[-] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

You do know Biden kept sending bombs to Israel which is the only reason the genocide was going on right?

If you want to lose in 2028, just stick with that smug nonsense, even though you know it doesn't work to win people to your side. Dems have spent the last three elections driving away votes they need if they want to win, and eventually you're going to have to learn to engage with people in a reasonable way if that's what you want.

It is wild, though, that after three disastrous elections in a row (and yes, I"m counting Biden barely squeaking to a win as disastrous) you still think it's a good idea to annoy the shit out of everyone in your social circle.

[-] ChillCapybara@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 4 days ago

There is nothing smug about this. This post isn’t about winning people to “our” side. It’s about a dark acceptance of the downfall of society. One that anyone who’s been paying attention has seen coming for a long time. We vote, we gripe online. It does nothing. Because it’s designed to do nothing. We recognize it yet, it’s all we can do. We either hold hands or we fight. Either way we burn together.
