Unsurprisingly, this also works on Trump supporters. They get furious when you even go so far as accidentally and unintentionally imply that Musk's opinion will influence Trump's actions.

8 years ago I'd have thought "Elon will step out of the limelight to avoid upsetting Trump so he can use his White House access to make a ton of money." Now, I know he's just as narcissistic and stupid as Donald Trump is.

What Trump is too stupid to realize is that this is Musk's presidency. Trump has always been a puppet to money and Elon can just buy him off, like he bought his way into Tesla.
And Musk os too stupid to realize that Trump cares about the image of holding piwer, not about the power itself. He's very easy to control from the shadows, but Elon can't keep his face out of the public eye.
Let's hope his ego doesn't let him realize that

I don't think EVs are the key issue here. The key issue are the grotesquely overinflated egos they both have. It's basically impossible for them to accept anyone as equal.
