It's like the old saying, "If you see a child stealing food, no you didn't."

[-] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 109 points 1 month ago

If you see anyone of any age stealing food, no you didn’t.

Seeing? In this economy? Surely not.

[-] PunnyName@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

One of my favorite movies!

[-] Deadeyegai@lemmy.world 147 points 1 month ago

I mean they say this is the guy they're looking for...but is it?? I don't recognize him at all. Also he doesn't seem to have that fancy backpack in between pictures. This leads me to believe that these are 2 separate dudes. Clothing colors are also different.

We don't know.

I'm gonna sound like a conspiracy theorist, but what do you think happens if they can't find a perpetrator? They find a scapegoat. They do that often, even with low-profile cases, what makes you think they won't do it for a high-profile case?

[-] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I mean there's a million eyes on them, they're either gonna get the right or the whole DA is gonna be in a world of shit.

If it comes out they intentionally framed someone cause they couldn't find the right guy, there's no way this won't come out. Already disregarding the heightened likelyhood on jury nullification and general unwillingness for the public to cooperate.

There's so many news stations in proximity and so many people who'd speak out in a nanosecond, they can't even get to fuck around before they find out.

[-] lurch@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 month ago

Pretty sure his dress is gold, not blue 😆

[-] witten@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

He was likely in New York for days before the shooting. Presumably not wearing the same clothes the whole time.

[-] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 142 points 1 month ago

Just pointing out that had it been an average Joe who got assassinated and we had a clear picture of the killer's face we wouldn't even have heard about it on the news. Now they want everyone to look for him.

[-] SendMePhotos@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

To be fair, a c level assassination is news, whereas a murder in a big city is not. It's not about the chicken, but the seasoning and presentation, young chef.

[-] stembolts@programming.dev 30 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

To be fair, a c level assassination is news, whereas a murder in a big city is not.

You state this as a norm, to me your perspective of this as an acceptable norm is the problem itself.

My thoughts :
Your post states authoritatively what the norm is. No challenge here, that is the norm. True.

but..
Why is that the accepted norm?

and..
What causes that to be the accepted norm?

so..
So if net worth affects the public services you receive in the form of police assistance, bounties, etc… isn’t that an indicator of a larger problem?

so..
Who benefits from the stated norms?

and..
Should we change those "norms", kinda seems unfair huh?

Yes.

Not perfectly written, but I think you get my jist. I'm so tired of people stating the norms of society as if they are immutable truths and not symptoms of a broken system.

Have a nice day.

[-] dumbass@leminal.space 81 points 1 month ago

And suddenly an entire city has facial blindness.

[-] cm0002@lemmy.world 39 points 1 month ago

Facial blindness and knowledge of jury nullification, for reasons...

[-] witten@lemmy.world 30 points 1 month ago

Oh I like that phrasing even better! I changed the meme. Thank you!

[-] dumbass@leminal.space 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

No worries, I love that they've released his face and still no one's saying shit. The poors are working together for the greater good.

Edit: Also, why does the first picture look like a young Joe Rogan?

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 77 points 1 month ago

Couldn't say it better myself.

[-] NevermindNoMind@lemmy.world 37 points 1 month ago

I like thinking he was avenging some family member(s) who died due to claim denials, or something along those lines. If we find out he's some Qanon weirdo operating on some conspiracy about endrinochrome or whatever, it's really going to dampen the vibes.

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

I sincerely hope he was. I hope it felt really good. I collected a mountain of screenshots from Facebook today of people who had lifesaving claims denied by them, and it's so shocking written out even though of course it isn't.

[-] PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works 58 points 1 month ago

Guy on the bottom has a mouse cursor over him so it’s obvious the pic is AI. Can’t prove the top pic isn’t also AI. These pics tell me nothing…this guy probably doesn’t even exist.

[-] lud@lemm.ee 36 points 1 month ago

What does a mouse cursor have to do with that? It's likely just an old school literal screenshot.

[-] Cethin@lemmy.zip 28 points 1 month ago

My assumption is that the comment was making a joke to just ignore this face because it isn't real. I assume they know it is, it's just an excuse to not pay attention if you see someone who looks like this.

[-] dabaldeagul@feddit.nl 7 points 1 month ago

If anything it makes it less likely to be AI imo. The cursor is pretty much perfect, and you can make out the pixelated diagonal line

[-] KuroiKaze@lemmy.world 49 points 1 month ago

I was just asking in another thread for this to replace the Drake meme and you already did it you glorious bastard

First they use our help to search sunken rich people, now they want our help to find rich people killers.

[-] Bunnylux@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago

The mayor of New York City literally said in an interview that the guy was masked the whole time and the face pictures were generated using "police techniques". Why is no one talking about this???

[-] witten@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I think you're probably misinterpreting the quote. Here's the reporting on this from the NYT:

Mayor Eric Adams said Friday morning that the investigation was “on the right track.” In an interview on Spectrum News NY1, the mayor added: “This person was fully masked, and we used good old-fashioned police work to come up with the picture you have.”

I think what the mayor is saying here is that because the alleged killer was masked, the cops actually had to do some detective work, canvas door-to-door maybe, pull security footage, that sort of thing. It wasn't just a case of sitting back and running facial recognition on the killer like something outta CSI.

Unless you're thinking of a different quote.

[-] Bunnylux@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

That was the quote. Thanks, I really did not understand that. I mean, if the guy was "fully masked", they wouldn't have a face shot. He should have said he was "mostly masked".

[-] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago

I assume they meant full masked during the shooting, but if there are enough cameras you can follow where someone originated from before they put their mask on and grab a image of their face from maybe a dozen streets away half an hour before the shooting.

Why the fuck is that mouse cursor pointing right? How did that happen? What kind of loving God would allow that?

[-] kelseybcool@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

It's a left handed mouse 😁

[-] SomethingBurger@jlai.lu 10 points 1 month ago
[-] witten@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I mirrored it to make the Drake meme format work. But my question is why the police left a mouse cursor in their security camera photo? Here it is in the original: https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/12/5/30d31dc7-3902-4f14-aa0f-f6ba39f3a79d.jpg.webp

[-] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

They likely didn't know how to save the file, so they took a picture of the screen.

[-] witten@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

That sounds quite plausible...

Anybody else see this photo and think 1) damn, that's a nice smile; he's fine, and 2) my hero.

[-] Wogi@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

I mean yeah he's charming but that ain't the guy. Different jacket, different bag.

[-] OneWomanCreamTeam@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

I mostly just wish people would stop posting pictures of him. I don't want the wrong person to actually recognize him, and get him caught.

[-] pfm@scribe.disroot.org 14 points 1 month ago

I think this scene summarises the situation very well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRcfqpyuk9k

[-] barnaclebutt@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Mr inbetween is the best show no one has heard of. I've watched the whole series multiple times now. I'm sad it was so short. Personally, I think it is better than other popular/critically acclaimed shows like breaking bad.

[-] theangryseal@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I’ve never heard of it. Will watch it today.

[-] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

I collected a small mountain of screenshots from Facebook of people who had United Healthcare claims denied.

Make this into the trolley problem: five people on one side, sad shooter face. One person on the other side requires manual intervention. Happy shooter face.
