Hawk Tuah

Pump and dump

Oh come on now

[-] blackluster117@possumpat.io 132 points 3 weeks ago

I can only imagine that the writers at The Onion are going insane because they just can't compete with reality anymore.

[-] OprahsedCreature@lemmy.ml 11 points 3 weeks ago

At this point they're just the news. Actually they're more accurate. No creativity needed anymore.

[-] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

why do you think they bought infowars?

Yeah, isn't it more of a spit and quit?

That's the last time I invest in an opportunity championed by someone who's only claim to fame is their explanation of how to properly suck a dick.

[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 38 points 3 weeks ago

hey now id like to see you transform that claim to fame into a wildly successful media presence /halfjoke

[-] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 15 points 3 weeks ago

Cash me outside girl gets an idea.

[-] Zozano@lemy.lol 72 points 3 weeks ago

At this stage, I have no sympathy for anyone dumb enough to invest in an obvious pump-n-dumps.

[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 29 points 3 weeks ago

there’s more people out there than you think. your exposure to the concept is relatively niche and privelaged, i think there’s still massive chunks of the population with exploitable cash out there that cons like this seek to exploit

[-] Zozano@lemy.lol 11 points 3 weeks ago

I understand that, but I seriously doubt these people are losing essential money. If you can afford to buy Hawk Tuah coins for the 'community aspect' then they probably aren't at risk of losing their life saving.

There's a big gap between what's happening here and telescammers robbing grannies for example.

[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 13 points 3 weeks ago

you’re free to believe that, without proof there’s no argument either way, and in any case it’s my personal belief this kind of manipulation of assets should be illegal no matter the target audience

[-] Zozano@lemy.lol 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming this isn't insider manipulation, or that it should be legal.

What I'm saying is people have a personal responsibility to be informed about the risks associated with cryptocurrency.

At this point, if you lose money on a pump-n-dumps, that's all on you.

The same could not be said five years ago, when influencer coins were unheard of.

They purposefully went after people who know nothing about crypto. But yeah it was pretty obvious for those who know anything above "buy Bitcoin"

[-] TheSlad@sh.itjust.works 60 points 3 weeks ago

Every time a notable/famous person or "influencer" or whatever talks about a crypto coin, it is a pump and dump. Shes just doing what all the other scumbag influencers are doing.

For years now crypto has just been another tool to extract wealth from the lower class.

[-] lousyd@lemmy.sdf.org 32 points 3 weeks ago

You think she gets tired of being called a "girl"?

[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 45 points 3 weeks ago

definitely. despite her bad actions i do feel bad for the misogyny she experiences. especially the whole getting pressured to make an OF stuff. i hope it doesn’t get to her and she can grow past the bad shit and have a fulfilling life

[-] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 31 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Only if the money dries up.

Edit: I feel I should clarify. If I could make a living doing very little and being called a ___ girl. I’d take it too. And I’m a cis male.

[-] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 13 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah i'd take being called a something "boy" if that brand made me money.

In fact i'm being called "boy" more time than i can count due to my short stature and i'm not even making much dough.

[-] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Relevant user name, but sorry dude, that’s bullshit.

People used to call me big guy when I was younger and it also annoyed me (felt like they were talking to me like a little kid). I hope it gets better as you get older, it did for me.

Oh right, the candlestick is the name given to a type of "error bar" chart in trading. When a pump and dump scheme happens, it typically draws a big big candlestick on charts.

And, y'know, benis :DDDD

[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 10 points 3 weeks ago

i chuckled lmao ty for explaining

  • getting the bag ✅
  • legal ✅ (but shouldn’t be)
  • ethical ❌
  • funny ✅
  • doesn’t contribute to systemic oppression by the ruling class ✅

i dunno, passes more vibe checks than most disgusting people i hear about these days 🤷‍♀️

[-] cirdanlunae 38 points 3 weeks ago

I mean, the only people who got ripped off are Crypto bros soooooo

[-] JPAKx4 23 points 3 weeks ago

Nope, she marketed specifically to fans that are new to crypto by saying it's a way to interact with her.

[-] felykiosa@sh.itjust.works 19 points 3 weeks ago

Crypto bros don't fall for those obvious scam , but they fall for other more complex scam like Luna . That's just normal peoples getting robbed by influencer

[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 7 points 3 weeks ago

not true. disturbed by the upvotes at this misconception—crypto bros are the scammers, she marketed to fans who had never touched blockchain before as a fresh market of exploitable cash.

Wait! The coin is called "Hawk" ? And they didn't spect a "Tuah"? That's hilariously funny

[-] derpgon@programming.dev 6 points 2 weeks ago

The Hawk & Tuah scheme

[-] franklin@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

This timeline sure is stupid

[-] caveman8000@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

It's funny how everyone was calling here just some dumb bj girl and now she's suddenly a criminal mastermind...

[-] Nasan@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 weeks ago

Would've been a mastermind had she succeeded, now she's just a dumb bj criminal. She's sullied the reputation of good bjs.

I guess the podcast thing wasn't going well and this is the attempt to cash out on the last few seconds of her 5 minutes of fame?

[-] spujb@lemmy.cafe 10 points 2 weeks ago

so my understanding is actually that she’s more of an exploited middleman/useful idiot in this situation

from her videos its obvious that a) she has a pretty big management team backing her and b) she actually has no clue what she is talking about with crypto

from this i conclude (could be wrong but my best guess given what i have seen) that it’s actually her team that’s cashing out on her by approving and aiding whatever crypto devs approached her with this move. she’ll probably make a good profit of course, but it strikes me as her PR team intentionally kneecapping her on the way out.
