It was awkward and racist, but if you watch the video the crowd cheers as he instantly relates it to money. I'm tellin' ya, we're fucked if every Dem and Trump hater dont come out of the woodworks to put this guy in his place. His support is way more entrenched than Lemmy will have you believe. We have to descend upon the polls like the Golden Horde.

Reminds me of this racist poster by the local far right party (switzerland).

“Expel criminal foreigners. Achieve security.”

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 2 points 2 weeks ago

I just kind of assumed they already enforced an ethnostate tbh

[-] FundMECFSResearch 17 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

switzerland? we’re 25% non-citizens which is the highest rate in europe (excluding microstates). Has caused some reactionary stuff though hence the rise of the racist far right party.

That’s compared to 7-8% of the US population for example. Or 12% of the German population (though getting german citizenship is easier than getting swiss citizenship).

[-] Raylon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

tbf a big reason for our high share of non-citizens is just that citizenship is much harder to acquire than in most other places

[-] FundMECFSResearch 4 points 1 week ago

Yes that’s definitely a part. But we also score far higher than other european countries on percentage of forgien born population and a bunch of other metrics. You can’t deny Switzerland is extremely multicultural.

Though our diversity tends to be majoritarily european and western. I think we have a smaller black or arab population than our neighbours.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

we’re 25% non-citizens

Refusing to give citizenship to residents isn't a point in the country's favor.

That’s compared to 7-8% of the US population for example.

If you want to get historical, the US is north of 99% migrants. But setting aside the politics of generational migration, we also have birthright citizenship and marital citizenship laws that naturalize people at a far more consistent rate. And we have an enormous territory, such that you can move from New York to California or Puerto Rico to Alaska and still enjoy citizenship.

What do you call a huge influx of East Coasters into Texas, Colorado, and Arizona if not migration?

Let me know when the majority of the Swiss population is French, and then you can brag about your diversity.

[-] FundMECFSResearch 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I’m not bragging about diversity just replying to someone calling switzerland an ethnostate. Jeez!

And I wouldn’t brag about most the US population being migrants from a couple centuries ago because that comes with the fact you practically wiped out the native population.

If you’d like to compare the US and Switzerland without using citizenship you could use percentage or forgein born population. 37% of the Swiss population vs 18% of the US population.

But I didn’t mean to start a US vs Switzerland contest, I just used US based statistics in my previous answer to illustrate how Switzerland is not currently an ethnostate. Especially since Switzerland contains 4 distinctive ethnicities since centuries. Schywzerdütsch have a very different culture than swiss romands or swiss italians etc. We don’t even speak the same language…

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

And I wouldn’t brag about most the US population being migrants from a couple centuries ago

Most Americans are less than three generations old.

"hey guys, I'm racist and hate you, vote for me!"

[-] criitz@reddthat.com 46 points 2 weeks ago

While he is a racist POS, this quote is edited from what he really said. Here's the context and full clip on snopes:

While telling a story about Air Force One and the call sign for when a U.S. president is aboard the aircraft, Trump referenced its age and also former President Barack Obama, telling the BCF audience, "I love this great equipment. Although the plane's 32 years old, I ordered new ones, and I saved $1.7 billion from what Obama was willing to pay. I have to tell you, [he's a] Black president, but I got $1.7 billion less. Would you rather have the Black president or the white president who got $1.7 billion off the price? I think they want the white guy right now. Got $1.7 billion off the price."

https://www.snopes.com/news/2024/10/11/trump-black-president-white-president/

[-] socsa@piefed.social 117 points 2 weeks ago

That context doesn't change the meaning even slightly. If anything it makes it worse. He's talking about an issue which is not related to race in any way, but he injects race into it. It shows exactly how he sees every aspect of the world.

[-] criitz@reddthat.com 29 points 2 weeks ago

I agreethat the full clip is just as damning. Which is why editing it to be misleading is unnecessary and counterproductive

[-] someguy3@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

It's not really misleading. It's the size of clip that fits.

[-] HomerianSymphony@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

We’re still not seeing the full context. I assume this was part of a wider conversation about the role of race in politics.

He’s making the point that a president’s actions matter more to voters (specifically black voters in this case) than a president’s race, which isn’t a bad point. (And I guess that’s what the audience is cheering for.)

I’m not a fan of Trump, but I’m also not a fan of taking things out of context.

[-] brian@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 weeks ago

I mean, he was speaking at the Black Conservative Federation. It's sorta relevant just given the venue.

[-] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 22 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

That's really just the cherry on the shit sundae, unnecessarily bringing race into the conversation just for the sake of racism, and you're being racist against the crowd you're speaking to. I mean, I'm sure there's plenty of self-haters amongst that group who see themselves as "one of the good ones" and don't have a problem with it, but still.

I love how this dude refuses to acually run against Kamala. It not a black man, it’s not Obama, you’re running against doofus, it’s a Black Woman. And, unless you’re a police officer, that’s at least 10x scarier for you.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

What's to run against? It's an election entirely on aesthetic. Do you want to old fat cat cigar smoking business dude or the lean mean latte sipping girl boss to rubber stamp our next genocide shipment to Israel and blame China for climate change?

Maybe we get a SCOTUS judge to start issuing 5-4 rulings against fundamental democratic principles instead of a 6-3, if we're lucky.

[-] freddydunningkruger@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago

Your nuanced understanding of geopolitics reminds me just how successful they've been at undermining the education system.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Almost begging the question of how so many state education systems are underfunded and overloaded with propaganda.

But hey, maybe you can get liberal darling Michelle Rhee to fix it for us. Privatization will give us all the nuance we require.

[-] GaMEChld@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Trickle me down daddy.

[-] Pandantic@midwest.social 13 points 1 week ago

As much as I know Kamala is the status quo which is not my bag either for many reasons (genocide being one), I know things can be much worse. And, unless you’re an accelerationist (doubtful from a .world-er), isn’t it better to not give ultimate power over genocide or expulsion of immigrants to this supreme egomaniac?

[-] WaxedWookie@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

And shifting the balance of SCOTUS for the better compared to ending democracy to install an octogenarian fascist is practically the same thing. Both sides, amirite?

You have a flawed candidate, and one of the worst in history, people - understand what's on the line, and stop drawing false equivalencies.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

isn’t it better to not give ultimate power over genocide or expulsion of immigrants to this supreme egomaniac?

Unfortunately, you've got a Democrat running who is openly courting John Negroponte, Jeff Flake, and the Cheneys.

If Harris puts Liz Cheney into a cabinet position, like State or Intelligence or DHS, that's exactly where we end up. We've just traded a loud borish egomaniac for a quieter and more sophisticated one.

Even if she doesn't, there's a murderers row of liberal-ish insiders who seem perfectly content to join shooting wars with Iran, Pakistan, Venezuela, China, half a dozen African nations, Mexico... Nevermind that proxy war with Russia we're already in.

unless you’re an accelerationist

Accelerationism isn't a philosophy, it's a coping mechanism. You get to pretend enshittification was your plan all along and not a disaster fully outside your control.

It's the 😂 emoji of political thought.

[-] Pandantic@midwest.social 4 points 1 week ago

I get what you’re saying, and I agree, but at this juncture, there’s nothing to be done. We only get a duopoly because of our voting system. It’s shit, we should change it.

What’s your political alignment, friend?

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

We only get a duopoly because of our voting system.

We don't have a duopoly. We have a pair of regional monopolies. And it's not the voting system that gives us candidates like Eric Adams or Mike Johnson or Joe Manchin. These are the consequence of a fully captured election system.

[-] zbyte64@awful.systems 6 points 1 week ago

Who would you rather get arrested by when protesting?

every time I hear the phrase 'quite part out loud' I'm reminded that despite everything he still has a chance.

anyone who thinks the quite part survived his presidency is a danger to themselves and their country.

the whole game plan has been sensory overload from day 1 of his presidency, pay attention idiots.

[-] Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

It truly does just boggle the mind. Worst part is he's got way more than a chance. He's trying his absolute best to fuck things up six ways to Sunday and it just doesn't seem to do absolutely anything. It's kinda wild.

[-] Trainguyrom@reddthat.com 5 points 2 weeks ago

The strongest memory of the Trump presidency was an exhausting series of scandals as he did this that and the other illegal thing. Felt like every single day some new leak or expose would be posted of something incredibly illegal he did, usually within the last 4 weeks before the article

[-] psud@aussie.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Last I saw the odds the bookmakers had them even (have they changed since the hurricane?)

Just checked again. Trump is odds on to win

[-] madcaesar@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

Black Conservative Federation...........

oh,I get an infinite loading screen.

[-] andrew_s@piefed.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

Dunno why you can't view the video. It's 13 seconds long, and he says:

"Would you rather have the black president or the white president who got 1.7 Billion off the price ... I think they want the white guy"

I don't know what price he's referring to (I'm not American).

[-] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago

wackadoo.

okay, thanks, I'll try it on my computer, maybe it's a platform issue with that site.

I believe the quote and you, I just find that idiot so literally incredible, as in unbelievable, that I have to watch and say these stupid things in person.

There are some instances that still run. Not exactly sure how, to be honest. The main two I know about that still work are

xcancel.com (what I linked in the body) and nitter.poast.org
