I only know of one that does that: Tony's Chocolonely.
and they've got a pretty good justification for it too
Which is?
It represents the inequality in the chocolate industry.
Why are your bars unequally divided?
It doesn’t make sense for chocolate bars to be divided into equal-sized chunks when there is so much inequality in the chocolate industry! The unequally-sized chunks of our 180g bars are a palatable way of reminding Choco Fans and Serious Friends that the profits in the chocolate industry are unequally divided.
And in case you haven’t noticed, the bottom of our bars depicts the West African coastline. The chunks just above it represent the Gulf of Guinea. From left to right, you have Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo and Benin (terribly politically incorrect, we know, but we had to combine them to create enough space for a hazelnut), Nigeria and part of Cameroon.
That's awesome!
Togo and Benin (terribly politically incorrect, we know, but we had to combine them to create enough space for a hazelnut)
lol
Nah. You can be pro reform without being silly and impractical. This may be the reason they do it, but it doesn't justify the impracticality of it.
Maybe? It doesn't really seem that big a deal to me, I still like getting their bars.
I think the different sizes are neat. You get to choose how much you want to eat.
A grid configuration also allows you this choice in a reproducible fashion.
Yeah but it's less fun
That makes them even more awesome in my book. Thanks for that link.
can they do that and make it so i can brake pieces of, without shattering the whole thing. I wont eat those big ass pieces and i dont want to break my hand trying to divide them.
Knife?
If I have to get a knife out to eat my chocolate bar it's already become more hassle than it's worth.
They could have rectangles and squares of uneven sizes that still have normal break lines, they choose not to. Heck they could even have triangles that break neatly if they really wanted to by putting a diagonal line down some squares or rectangles.
I mean if you’re eating it in pieces instead of the whole thing you already need to put the thing away….
Buy smaller bars then. The situation has remedies…
Tony's only comes in 180g bars where I live, there is no smaller size. If you're going to say I should buy a different one then, well I thought I made clear I already do because of their stupid design, but if I wanted to support them because of other good reasons, they only have the one stupid option either way.
They have other sizes and you can order online, or, use a bloody knife…
So now you're telling me to order a small bar of chocolate online to come God knows when, and pay postage for an already expensive chocolate... If I want a single serve of chocolate I don't want to wait for it to come by delivery days later, these aren't reasonable solutions.
Having stuff on hand for cravings is unreasonable…? Seriously?
Than get a different brand of you want to be this bloody entitled lmfao.
First, I do get a different brand, that's my point. Second, now you're telling me to buy it in bulk to always have around? I don't want to spend that much on an already expensive chocolate and it'll probably just go fast from my kids anyway. Plus in summer it'll either melt from the heat or be rock hard from being in the fridge, neither is ideal.
Also, usually I'll just buy it as a treat when we're already out. If I'm trying to split a chocolate between 4 people at a shopping centre, I'm not going to be carrying around a knife, I want to be able to just easily break it into 4 sections. Nor am I going to think before we leave "I should grab 4 of those chocolates I bought online in my pocket in case we want some".
I have no problem just getting a different brand to avoid the hassle, all I'm saying is maybe I'd get theirs if it wasn't designed so stupidly. But I'm sure they don't care enough about getting business from 1 random guy to change it, so I'm fine getting others.
They seem pretty cool!
Unfortunately I can't eat them, since the one thing they can't seem to certify on is gluten... May be pretty good gifts though.
It's not representing anything will if people don't know about it. And I think most people who shall out the extra money for a brand like Chocolonely are doing it because they're already aware of what a clusterfuck the chocolate industry is.
This doesn't make any sense. People don't know about it, but they already but Chocolonely because they know about it? What?
People don't know about the weird chunk sizes representing inequality.
They do know about Chocolonely being marketed as a more ethical product.
Slavery!
That’s why it’s the color that it is
Edit: my bad, I guess it’s shaped like the coast of Africa
fucking love chocolonely. the random bar shapes give my mouth good feels
Cadbury's Marvellous Creations range has been doing it for about 10 years, but I've only seen them in Australia and SE Asia (assumigly sold in UK, too).
Cadbury Bubbly does it too, though sadly I haven't seen any of it on shelves (apart from the mint variant, eww) for a few years.
Is Lemmy now that popular that people start posting disguised ads?
Name checks out
really? we can't allude to anything now? oh no someone referenced a movie, they must be working for the studio!
I'd really appreciate it if we kept Lemmy without the miserable grumpy cat that is r/hailcorporate just running around accusing people of shilling for literally mentioning anything in any context whatsoever.
I don't think there are that many ads, even if there were you could easily get rid of them by buying my cool Lemmy adblock that uses AI to recognize clever product placement and cover it up with a picture of dirt!
Maybe comes from the recent chocolate post and OP found it in their folder of 'stolen memes'. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nobody does nothing?
"companys?"
Get this shit outta here
Man, I've never understood this nobody meme and it seems nobody is even able to explain it.
We're on the same boat. The meme is very ambiguous, but it roughly means that something happens seemingly without a reason, i.e. the author doesn't understand why something is the way it is
Is this a loss meme?
Companies
Chocolate company’s.
Nobody: "We need a 'nobody:' in there!"
Im pretty sure some people said that
If not, are all the memes with "nobody: " in them werent made by anybody and that is the signature?
I was being hyperbolic. The original usage is completely incorrect, because if nobody said nothing, then everybody said something.
Haven't seen that before but, I am okay with this.
Make it a Nautilus spiral or fractals and I could theoretically have endless chocolate.
Wait is this loss
~~:.|:;~~
I genuinely can't fucking stand this. It never breaks away cleanly and it just makes it annoying to share because the pieces are all different sizes
You just need a basement full of Oompa Loompas, then you don't need predetermined breaking points on your chocolate and could enjoy it entirely.
