Meme so old the battery is removable

[-] newIdentity@sh.itjust.works 93 points 1 year ago

And they will be again in a few years thanks to the EU

[-] potopato@lemm.ee 32 points 1 year ago

Finally, I don't understand why it took so long.

Because institutions are slow in that regard

[-] what_is_a_name@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Let’s wait for the final bill.

I do not thing we will return to user swappable batteries. It will just be easier to have a shop replace your battery. But that is just my guess. We do not know the final bill yet.

[-] cooopsspace@infosec.pub 16 points 1 year ago

I'll take "this guy has no fucking idea" for $1000 thanks Brent.

[-] pinkdrunkenelephants@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

Wait. You people can't remove the batteries from your phone? 🤨 My phone is only 2 years old and I can take off the back and remove mine whenever I want. The fuck kind of shit companies are you buying from?

[-] gigachad@feddit.de 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

There are only few devices with an easy to replace battery and I get some cynical vibes from your comment so you are probably aware. There are even less devices in the price class between 200 - 300€, a lot of people can't afford the Fairphone. Hopefully the EU will deal with that shit soon.

[-] pinkdrunkenelephants@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

You all need to hit up Best Buy then, because you can buy a $200- $300 unlocked phone from which you can, in fact, pop out the battery.

Please for the love of god, tell me you idiots weren't signing on to contracts and indebting yourselves to phone companies just to get access to shitty, locked, censored and controlled iPhones or Galaxies.

Edit: I count 8 idiots. Holy crap, how did you let yourself get schnookered?

[-] thawed_caveman@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I've been getting my Galaxies from Craigslist

[-] HamBrick@programming.dev 3 points 1 year ago

Many people think that’s the only way of doing it. Just because you know about it doesn’t mean everyone else’s does, but yes, you can likely go to any electronics retailer and get an unlocked phone pretty easily

[-] frenchyy94@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

Not everyone lives in the US btw.

And please tell me, what phones in that price category have a removable battery (that aren't complete shit, and the only feature is a removable battery)?

[-] howlongisleft@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Ones that offer water resistance apparently

[-] frippa@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I don't even know if I can, my phone is a literal tank weighing half a kilo. It has some weird bezels you can screw out but I never tried to see if they reveal the massive battery

[-] thorbot@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

This comment is idiotic. That’s how every iPhone has been and still is. You can remove the display and can lift up the battery and replace it.

[-] masterspace@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 year ago

You're idiotic. You used to be able to do this on all phones without disassembling the screen .

[-] thorbot@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah because I fucking engineered the phone to be like that. It’s my fault.

[-] nyoooom@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

The point is that by default today the battery of a smartphone is not removable by a random individual, it might not be super duper hard to do but you still need proper hardware and knowledge to do it.

10 years ago even my grandma could have swapped the battery.

[-] Stez827@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 year ago

Dude the battery is just as removable in the phone in this picture as any new phone today

[-] Razputinsgirth@kbin.social 73 points 1 year ago

Fuck cheaters limo just show him the note and 100

[-] MrBusinessII@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

Just show the note with the last line missing.

[-] jackpot@lemmy.ml 66 points 1 year ago

this has to be fake, you easily could just break the phone rofl

[-] alekks09@lemm.ee 31 points 1 year ago

It is probably fake, but if my wife wanted to check the call history and suddenly the phone gets broken, she would get more suspicious than a just “It’s not powering on anymore”

[-] mvirts@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

Lol for real, if you can open the phone to put the note in, you could easily just factory reset it and smash or zap a few things before shipping it, or like be a real fucking human being and be honest with your wife

[-] explodicle@local106.com 2 points 1 year ago

He probably broke it in a rush, and then put the note in later.

[-] Soad@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Also she's could jet get the call records from their provider.

[-] AdmiralShat@programming.dev 2 points 1 year ago

Not if she's not on the account.

[-] potustheplant@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago

this is fake and has been reposted in reddit way too many times.

[-] HubertManne@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

does anyone think things like this are true? I assume they are all staged.

[-] thorbot@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It’s clearly fake because that’s not how the display comes off the device when you do this repair. You lift it from the top and keep the display cables connected, and only disconnect the battery cables.

[-] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 29 points 1 year ago

(unless it's someone stealing food, because you if you see someone stealing food, you've never seen someone stealing food)

[-] whatisallthis@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

Why not just fix it and wipe the phone

[-] HurlingDurling@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Maybe they have it synced to the cloud

[-] dulce_3t_decorum_3st@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

Or—and hear me out—the photo isn't a true reflection of real life, if that makes sense.
