As somebody told me the other day, they beat Hitler, they beat Napoleon.

In case any of you lurking Trump voters here need another example to ignore of how this person has no business in government and is too ignorant to be president. You are complicit in an impending tragedy to your history and the world.

This guy says he is the one who can stop World War III and people believe it. Embarrassing and terrifying, weird just doesn’t cut it.

[-] Syntha@sh.itjust.works 6 points 9 months ago

As if this is what was needed to prove it. Trump once answered a question about the failings of western liberalism by talking about how liberal cities on the west coast were doing badly.

[-] zeppo@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

He really is a remarkably stupid person.

[-] zeppo@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

The only person who can stop WW3 and also “save the country”, which according to him is a smoking husk.

[-] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 months ago

His base doesnt give a shit about world war 3, they just want america to fuck off front the rest of the world.

I don't believe trump would follow through on that, but thats what he's promising.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 120 points 9 months ago

I'm sure none of you need me to tell you this, but I feel the need to say it anyway- Trump brought up Hitler and Napoleon being unable to defeat Russia.

It's really fucking different when you are being invaded. Than when you are the invader.

[-] AmidFuror@fedia.io 71 points 9 months ago

Someone told Trump those things happened. He has no grasp on any of the details.

[-] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I wonder what his response would be if someone told him Poland never surrendered to Hitler either, moved it's government and attacked back and took back their home. Thereby Polands record against Hitler would be 1-0. It also would indicate they survived the Soviet Unions invasion of Poland as well.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 15 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Poland's leaders also never signed a non-aggression pact with Hitler. They knew better.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 15 points 9 months ago

The Soviets were complete jackasses to their allies. For example, they refused to allow American bombers to launch raids on Japan from eastern Russia, forcing the Allies to do a brutal island-hopping campaign to get them within range.

Then, when a few B-29s were too damaged to make the long flight back to the island and diverted to Russia, they confiscated the planes and imprisoned their crews until the end of the war.

Then, after the war, they dismantled two of the planes so they could figure out how to build a good airplane and claimed it as their own and called it the Tu-4.

Oh, and they also threw Andrei Tupolev into a gulag because he couldn't meet Stalin's insane demands.

I know, I just had to point out why it was so stupid or it would have killed me.

[-] Tja@programming.dev 26 points 9 months ago

Napoleon and Hitler couldn't but Emperor Meiji (1905), Kaiser Wilhelm (1917), President Piłsudski (1920) and the Mujahideen (1980s) managed just fine, just to mention the 20th century.

[-] Valmond@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

IIRC even sweden kicked some ruski butt.

Edit: Finland for sure! My memory about sweden was that it happened way before WW2.

  • orange turd claims to want to pull US out of NATO, whose primary adversary is Russia

  • orange turd saying he'll stop funding Ukraine's defense against Russian invasion

  • Right-wing groups outright shown to be funded by Russia

  • orange turd has been known to be friendly with, and speak positively of, leaders of Russia, N Korea, and China... knowingly not to be friendly with NATO nations.

If this doesn't scream to you where his loyalties are and where this country is headed...

how the fuck can republicans want him for president?

[-] kylie_kraft@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

how the fuck can republicans want him for president?

Maybe because the Russians backed him as their candidate in 2016, 2020, and now in 2024 (the enemy of my enemy and all that), the Russians have been buying Republican support wholesale since at least then, the Republicans have always valued money and power over all else, and the few Republicans who had qualms about it are long gone?

Just some ideas.

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

it was a rhetorical question.

the answer is they're fucking traitors.

Trump is a corrupted politician who serve rich people and corporations interests. They are an asset of the government and of the establishment. USA military spending is about 10 times bigger than russia. USA has hundreds of military facilities in europe and probably thousand around the world. They have the biggest and most advanced army in the world, they have more weapons in space than anyone else, they have the biggest mass surveillance network in the world. They are the country with the biggest corporations in the world and with the biggest leverage on worldwide markets. To think that the former ceo of usa is an asset of the "enemy" to me sounds like a poorly credible scenario and propaganda. Isn't more likely that the red and blue party are playing a good cop bad cop game to cycle in power like they have done for almost a century?

[-] nyctre@lemmy.world 24 points 9 months ago

Nah, it's a lot more likely that Russia's got trump by the balls. It's about a billion times more likely than your illuminati conspiracy.

Do you also believe the earth is flat? It's about the same odds I think, altho I'm no mathematician;

[-] index@sh.itjust.works 3 points 9 months ago

Do you know that during the cold war USA supported masonic lodges (aka the illuminati) around the world as part of their stay behind operations?

It’s about a billion times more likely than your illuminati conspiracy.

Again USA spend way more billions than russia in warfare. I encourage you to research about USA military capabilities and their current deployment of forces around the globe.

[-] nyctre@lemmy.world 20 points 9 months ago

None of that has anything to do with the Dems and GOP being in cahoots to control the country.

Also, the illuminati and freemasons are two different societies, get your conspiracies straight, please.

[-] index@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 months ago

None of that has anything to do with the Dems and GOP being in cahoots to control the country.

USA military complex doesn't change when red or blue are in power.

Russia has a world class intelligence service, they've got that one thing going for them.

Trump is absolutely compromised by the Russians and has been for decades.

You're so bad at this.

Note to index's handler: do better.

[-] troed@fedia.io 52 points 9 months ago

Trump doesn't know the difference between the Soviet Union and Russia.

Because that's what Putin wants his minions to believe.

Ukraine were largely the force that defeated the Nazis on the east front in WWII - not Russia. Both were however part of the Soviet Union at the time.

[-] Skua@kbin.earth 30 points 9 months ago

Ethnic Russians were the largest proportion of the killed in action by quite a margin, let's not pretend that they weren't doing their part. Ukraine was too, of course - the people that pretend Ukraine just jumped ship and shacked up with the Nazis at the first opportunity are doing an unbelievable disservice to the millions of Ukrainians that died fighting the Nazis - but the huge population disparity between Russia and every other Soviet republic does show in the data.

[-] PugJesus@lemmy.world 14 points 9 months ago

Nah, Ukrainians served in disproportionately large numbers considering most of Ukraine was occupied by the Nazis, but ethnic Russians contributed roughly equivalent to their proportion of the Soviet Union.

[-] Ghyste@sh.itjust.works 32 points 9 months ago

Fuck this worthless fucking piece of shit.

Apologies ahead of time for the coarse opinion, but this shitbag has no remote concept of the preciousness of any life aside of his own.

[-] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 26 points 9 months ago

Putin should clean his fat suit more often.

[-] ravhall@discuss.online 15 points 9 months ago

This should make the tankies happy right? No more funding warfare.

[-] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago

It could not be clearer. Nine years ago I felt like Cassandra, now I just feel like Ren Hoek.

[-] john89@lemmy.ca 6 points 9 months ago

Ukraine can't win without Western troops.

It's that simple.

[-] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 13 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Meh, doubt that. Russian incompetence has lead to far inferior efficiency of troops and tools of war. Any advantage they once held is gone.

[-] Car@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 9 months ago

Quantity is a quality of its own. I’d say Ukraine is hanging on with advanced weaponry. It needs the mass to push Russian troop advances and repel their forces out of their country.

Anything else is keeping the status quo of roughly even wins and losses, which will never lead to victory in the next decade.

[-] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I believe that in the entirety of 2023 Russia claimed another 518 km despite heavy military losses? Yeah, doesn't look good for Russia.

[-] Car@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 9 months ago

Russia claimed and held territory. Their military leadership doesn’t particularly value human lives in this conflict and hasn’t historically either. I have no doubt that they will continue the course suffering heavy human losses and eventually find some form of victory.

Ukraine needs more people if they want any hope of staving that eventuality off. The Russians have very different ideas of fighting a war of attrition.

[-] WhatYouNeed@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

Ukraine needs ammo, not troops.

Human wave attacks (favoured by the Russians) are effective against opponents who have to ration their ammo, like arty rounds, due to scarcity.

If the defender has sufficient anno reserves, human wave attacks become very, very ineffective.
