This comment section is confusing me immensely

[-] WolvenSpectre@lemmy.ca 195 points 4 months ago

This post was made by King right after Kamala did a rally in Michigan and used that phrase to trash some Anti-Genocide Pro-Palistine protesters who she first said that "OK I'm Speaking" and then told them to keep it up if they wanted Trump to win. This is after she had had met with muslim leaders and protest leaders and was giving them the run around.

Caitlin Johnstone who is famous for hosting Democracy Now and has been covering the genocide in depth, saw Steven King post this and thought, as many other people did, that it was referring to what she did to the protesters . Then people in the know started to inform us that it was in reference to something she said during the Presidential Debate 4 years ago. Something that her team should take into account and do away with that merch for a while.

[-] USSMojave@startrek.website 50 points 4 months ago

She personally met with those protesters before the rally, then when they later interrupted the rally, she let them have their moment, then when they wouldn't shut up, that's when she said that. Those particular protesters had no intention of having any kind of discussion, and it's quite telling that they only come to Democratic events instead of Republican ones, who are MUCH more hawkish and pro-Israel than Dems and whom a protest against might be more effective, if they actually cared about Palestinians

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 22 points 4 months ago

To be fair they protest Democrats because they have a history of at least listening. The Republicans, not so much.

[-] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 18 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

If they went to the Republican rallies, the Republicans would violently attack them. Trump has repeatedly and explicitly told them to do so. I can't blame them for not protesting where they know it would land them in the hospital, or worse.

[-] Clinicallydepressedpoochie@lemmy.world 22 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

So if the democrats violently attacked them they wouldn't protest?

Interesting, nuanced even.

Willing to put the lives of marginalized people in danger with a trump presidency but if their physical well being is threated, genocide away.

So, here's the real reason they don't show to trump rallies. They are under the impression they can influence the Harris campaign into supporting policy that will strong arm Isreal into ending the Palestinian genocide. Is it far fetched? Possibly, but they are desperate.

Unfortunately, we are all pretty desperate right now. So, the whole weighing human suffering thing is kind of... deaf ears and all that...

[-] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

If Harris and Biden were explicitly telling their supporters to attack protesters, I know I would stop protesting at their events. I dunno about these particular protesters, but I would imagine that sort of hateful rhetoric would certainly have a cooling effect on any hypothetical protests in such a scenario.

Many were Palestinians who had lost swaths of their family to Genocide, but you don't care about that... oh I though we were both making assumptions based on personal opinion.

ah, that's a little different. Without context, I thought she was bashing heads at some debate.

[-] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 14 points 4 months ago

Was that shirt official campaign merch to begin with? People make their own t-shirts all the time.

What is happening here

[-] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 15 points 4 months ago

That ignores the actual context of this shirt. You just cannot remove Putin's dick from your throat can you?

The actual context of the shirt is an event that happened in 2020 when she told Mike Pence at a VP debate that it was her turn to talk.

Seems like a dumb slogan but I don't see why you'd get triggered by it. If the Right is triggered by it, that's probably why Stephen King is wearing it.

Also it isn't a slogan it's just on a shirt.

[-] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 12 points 4 months ago

Because she said it to silence genocide protestors

[-] Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

Oh shit. I thought that was Bernie.

[-] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 59 points 4 months ago

Caitlin Johnstone is a Putinist, so of course she’d be gunning for the Democrats. Her bosses want a second Trump administration, after all.

[-] Linkerbaan@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago
[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 19 points 4 months ago

You reposting this is a pretty good piece of evidence of its friendliness to Putin

[-] fuckingkangaroos@lemm.ee 11 points 4 months ago

My thoughts exactly

Whether or not she's a Putinist I can't say, but her work is crowd funded. She's independent.

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 15 points 4 months ago

There is surely no way to prove either one of you correct.

I looked Caitlin up for 50 seconds. Went to her website. She seems like a huge Tankie with her posts. (Anderson Cooper is a CIA agent.) Fuk, that is some weird lefty paranoid shit, even for me.

Anyway, she can cope and seethe that the country is headed in a better direction.

[-] Drunemeton@lemmy.world 15 points 4 months ago

By “her” do you mean Caitlin or Kamala? It’s really not clear, but I think you mean Caitlin.

[-] lessthanluigi@lemmy.world 34 points 4 months ago

I should have clarified, sorry. Caitlin. Maybe she has some good takes, but I am more cautious about certain anti-american leftist rhetoric, and one of them is calling random people CIA agents. I used to be really into this type of stuff, but ever since the Ukrainian war and how the Russian propaganda uses anti-american rhetoric to use as fuel for their war, I have just been more critical of it.

[-] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 14 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

She's just the left's equivalent of a thoughtless single issue voter: stuck on her one point like a flagpole sitter, obstinate and blind to the realities of the normal people on the ground below. All of her tweets are like "bOtH sIdEs ArE jUsT aS bAd".

Well that's great Caitlin, how nice for you that nothing would change for you personally if Trump won. How awesome to be in such a privileged position that from your high post they both look tHe SaMe. Sounds like a comfy place to spend your days yelling at the people down in the mud.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago

OP is exactly the same, but never once had cared about anything except hurting Palestinians. ER I mean helping them yes that

[-] washbasin@sh.itjust.works 13 points 4 months ago
[-] lessthanluigi@lemmy.world 28 points 4 months ago

So, Anderson Cooper IS a CIA agent or what?

I agree democracts can be cringe and are not much better than cons, but fuck man they are better than Trump.

Besides, Shawn fain is planning a General Strike in 2028. Can't wait for that.

[-] null@slrpnk.net 22 points 4 months ago

Huh? What are you talking about...?

[-] CodexArcanum@lemmy.world 23 points 4 months ago

I saw one of these shirts in the wild and it bummed me out a little. Seems like a tasteless slogan to get going, and... just oddly pro-authority sounding. I expected Harris to dissapoint me eventually (Obama 2.0) but I thought she'd at least give me until after the election.

[-] molten@lemmy.world 58 points 4 months ago

It's... this. That is the thing disappoints you? The straw that broke the camels back? We are reaching new heights of fragility.

[-] Guy_Fieris_Hair@lemmy.world 16 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

It's an old shirt from 2020 if that helps. She said "I'm speaking" at a debate. Unfortunately, the context has changed now.

I mean... Harris' time as a DA gained her a reputation as "a cop"

[-] KillingTimeItself@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 4 months ago

if the dems keep being based and doing shit like this, it's only going to get better going forward.

We need more shitposting like this.
