I'll note that the NLRB is appointed by the President; this kind of outcome is only possible because we've had a Democratic president the past few years.

It honestly didn't occur to me that the people walking around in Amazon branded shirts driving Amazon branded trucks as part of the Amazon delivery fleet could be legally considered not employees at Amazon.

With enough legislation and rulings like this, we might begin to slightly unbreak this terrible system.

You may be surprised but the same applies to FedEx drivers too. Most of them

[-] treadful@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

Not sure about Amazon, but I suspect there's a difference there. FedEx drivers own their routes and look a bit more like actual contractors. Considering I never see the same Amazon driver and now they're opening up Amazon Flex (git economy bullshit), I really doubt it's the same thing.

The fact that we still have a Democratic president is why we still have an NLRB at all.

And it will be swiftly reversed by a Republican, should one get in office.

The Republican party should die with Trump's failed campaign... we'll always have conservatives but that role could easily be played by the democratic party which would oppose a more liberal branch party. Republicans have moved so far into conspiracy theories that their core party platforms are not relevant to reasonable policy discussions.

Dude Harris isn't that far ahead. This kind of attitude is what lost 2016.

Where did I say they were? Modern us politics isn't based in policy discussions - we could easily see a party swap in the next decade if Trump royally fucks the GOP... that isn't a given and we all need to vote - but it is a possibility.

The Republican party should die with Trump’s failed campaign

The implication of this statement is that it has already failed.

[-] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 months ago

Oh, I suppose there's an optimistic conditional in there... "if (as I hope) Trump's campaign is an utter failure, it should bring down the party."

🤝

Now that I agree with.

[-] silence7@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 months ago

Which is why Americans should prevent that.

Wouldn't it be great if they applied civil forfeiture to the board of directors of the company seeing as their compensation was involved with illegal activity? No new laws needed.
