How did you assemble the STL? Freesurfer?

I had some MRIs done about a year ago that included the brain and I got so/so results out of Freesurfer. You could tell it was a brain but it still looked a little janky. Yours looks great, though!

Thanks! I used InVesalius for creating the STL of my entire head, and I used Autodesk Meshmixer to isolate my brain from all the other pieces of my head. There are better ways to do it though, I think.

cool - I'll try to run my images through InVesalius instead. Thanks for inspiring me to give this another shot!

Love the idea, I always thought of doing the same with my skull since I worked with MRI files and could probably export the file. However I never did an MRI of my head.

Where is my mind....

[-] Guy_Fieris_Hair@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

They should let you have the files. You paid... dearly for them.

[-] Couldbealeotard@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

What file format did they provide?

Would be fun to print the brain of a friend, and compare folds 🧠🧠

[-] Photon@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Wow. It's insane seeing the "you" next to you.

Funny, I always pictured the brain a bit bigger. Maybe due to TV series and such and because I couldn't really judge what the size would be based on the head.
It sparked a controversial question in my mind, does a bigger brain make you smarter (so big headed people could be smarter). One page I came across (which looked at least a little legit) was this: Stanford Ask a neuroscientist

[-] decavolt@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

I used to think the same, until I read somewhere that our brain is pretty much the size of our two fists if we put them palm-to-palm. Looking at my own hands that way is a great reminder.

Shit, I have a pea for a brain then. And yes, of course I tried it. Funny to know and indeed a great reminder.

It's good to have a spare I guess. LOL

How thoughful of them!

[-] SkySyrup@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

That's amazing! You should've scaled it to 110% and then shown it to your family xD

[-] hiyaaaaa23@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Wow that’s wrinkly,

Cool!

[-] ninetynine@lemmy.film 2 points 1 year ago

That's a good looking brain.

[-] dap@lemmy.onlylans.io 2 points 1 year ago

Nice! I did the same, but I did it on my resin printer so the full 1:1 wouldn't fit. I ended up doing a 1/4th scale...I call him mini me lol.

[-] DumBirb@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Now post a photo of it in the gutter!

[-] Ni@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

That is pretry amazing, and what a unique self portrait. Almost in the truest sense.

[-] BuddhaBeettle@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Oh dude that's awesome!
I work with MRI files all the time, I can't believe I never thought this was something you could do with them.
This whole time for educational activities we have been carrying around the real things preserved inside a glass like maniacs, instead of, you know, a pretty 3d model that does not get kids asking us deep or gory questions about death.

[-] WhipTheLlama@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

You should print one in TPU so it's soft, then put it in a glass container with a safe to handle liquid so it looks like a real brain preserved in formaldehyde. Then you can reach in and pull out the brain and ask who wants to hold it.

[-] recently_coco@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Wild! I love this!

Would be an interesting art piece for a bookshelf or something. Maybe make a little stand for it, too!

Do I gotta pay extra for the obj file?
