Trumps not president. Biden is.

[-] AmidFuror@fedia.io 21 points 5 months ago

Amazing insight. When the article talks about the "threat from Trump," is it implying Trump is currently President?

[-] blazera@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Biden is president, the threats that Trump poses are also part of Bidens presidency. The years of just letting him do whatever he wants without prosecution. They keep saying he's a threat to democracy, is Biden just impotent in defending Americas democracy?

[-] AmidFuror@fedia.io 7 points 5 months ago

Biden doesn't and shouldn't directly control the Attorney General. There have been federal charges filed against Trump in two cases. Now it is up to the judiciary to move those cases forward.

[-] blazera@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Absolutely he controls the attorney general. Its his own appointment and he has full discretion to fire and replace, as we saw with trump.

[-] GeneralVincent@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

So... Biden should lean on fascism to do what's best for the country? Stoop to the level of Republicans? I think a lot of us disagree

[-] blazera@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

what fascism, Im talking about prosecuting for federal crimes, which is the executive branch's duty. Trump was committing fascism by having his attorney general not prosecute his federal crimes.

[-] GeneralVincent@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Isn't prosecuting crime more of a judicial branch thing?

Edit: I checked, looks like attorney general is executive branch

Also, firing the attorney general when they don't prosecute who you think they should seems pretty bad. Especially when it's a political rival. Maybe leave that to the person who is not directly impacted by the outcome of the prosecution? Like a checks and balances kinda idea?

[-] blazera@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

No, the judicial branch oversees trials and makes rulings. In federal court, the executive branch acts as the prosecutor, making the case that federal crimes were committed. They dont decide guilt, they just make the case.

[-] GeneralVincent@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

Yeah thanks for clearing that up, that's what I read when I actually looked into it further

[-] Dkarma@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Lol omg you're so dumb that's not how appointments work.

[-] AmidFuror@fedia.io 2 points 5 months ago

We're not looking to Trump for behavioral standards, are we?

[-] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 11 points 5 months ago

That could change in a few months.

And yet he still holds autocratic control over the entire Republican party and an illegitimate Supreme Court.
