I worked at a place where we could accumulate vacation hours, but if we missed work for illness or something we had to use vacation hours for the first 2 days.
A co-worker of mine who was in her 60s told me she didn't get a vacation in 20 years, like it was a good thing and a point of pride for her.
That was quite some time ago, and I still feel depressed just thinking about it.
Workers in my state are very easily exploited due to subscribing unquestionably to the tenets of the Protestant work ethic.
