Only a tankie would respond to "freedom of speech and self expression without government reprisal is important" with "but genocide!".

There's multiple things going on at once, and, unlike tankies, most people are capable of supporting various issues simultaneously. They can say the genocide is fucked up and needs to stop while also saying oppressive regimes (who are also conducting genocides fyi) aren't cool.
