MODERATORS
Have they established how name changes like that work in the death note universe? I don't recall that being brought up
I don't think they have, but I would imagine that it's based on what they think of themselves or call themselves.
Although I also imagine that they might just say that your name can't be changed and that the first name given is the "true" name, which seems dumb but that's good old Japanese traditionalism for you.
And if they write the name ugly, does anybody that gets called ugly instantly die?
They have to have the specific person's face in mind while they write.
