Donald Trump on Friday downplayed the toll on American sailors enduring nearly nine months at sea on the USS Abraham Lincoln as concerns escalated about mental health and supply issues aboard the aircraft carrier supporting U.S. operations against Iran.

In a brief exchange with reporters before flying to New York for an event to highlight falling violent crime rates across the U.S., Trump refuted that family members have raised concerns about the deployment’s length and even said that the deployment — which includes a record-setting uninterrupted time at sea of more than 240 days — is “not nearly long enough.”

Every single one of them that voted for Trump or didn't vote, got what they deserve. They voted for the leopard eating faces, and now the leopard is on them.
The ones that voted against Trump are the only ones I can really feel sorry for.
Fuck Americans that failed to vote against Trump.

Trump is a malignant narcissist, and that was very clear before the election, it was also clear before he was elected the first time.
If you want a malignant narcissist as leader of your country, you are not right in the head.

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 59 points 14 hours ago

There's no way they could have known. It's not like he had a history going back into the 70s and 60s of being a... oh, yeah. He did.

You know the joke in Back to the Future where Marty tells Doc the President is Reagan, and he says incredulously, "What? The actor?" Well, imagine going back to any point in the latter 20th century and telling someone that Trump will be President. Anyone would laugh, no matter what party affiliation. Seems we all had standards back then, even if they were still low.

The reason is simply because he's the perfect tool that the Southern Strategy dreamed of. They never had an idea it would work so well.

[-] GraniteM@lemmy.world 19 points 9 hours ago

They knew Trump was a scumbag back when they made Back to the Future 2! You think this...

...was a coincidence?!

[-] justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io 23 points 14 hours ago

Hell, the Simpsons made fun of the idea.

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

There’s no way they could have known.

They couldn't have known an obvious malignant narcissist would behave like a malignant narcissist? Is that really your claim?
For that to be true, you'd have to be so stupid you wouldn't be able to find the polling station either.

Edit:
It doesn't change anything that he quotes a movie, he picked that quote to make that point. And it is simply wrong.

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 24 points 14 hours ago

Well, yes, people can be that stupid. Also, how did you read all of what I posted and not realize it was sarcasm? Or did you see the first few words and rage post?

[-] DonkeyStar@lemmy.world 6 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)
[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 4 points 11 hours ago

Yeah, maybe you were right. Good lord.

[-] DonkeyStar@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

Yeah, when I saw “I don’t even know what Southern Strategy means” I knew you were in for a ride.

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 7 points 13 hours ago

Not for the first replies. But if they double down, then sure, let them have their "victory". The chain of messages tells the real story.

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

No you have to agree with the psychopath to not be able to see it, and if you agree, you are no better yourself.
Only a psychopath don't recognize a psychopath. And Malignant Narcissist is the worst kind of Psychopath there is.

Also it doesn't look like sarcasm to me, quoting a movie is not sarcasm.
And Reagan is irrelevant to American voters voting for an obvious psychopath. For instance the situation with Russia was completely different. And Reagan actually had coherent policies.
Also Emmett Browns surprise is acting. It is not real.

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 14 points 13 hours ago

You should look it up. It will make you realize how deep this goes. Can't help you with the rest, it was pretty clear, unless you also don't understand the movie reference. Which is entirely possible, it's amazing how many memes are shared by people these days who are clueless on the origins. A true loss.

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

Edit:
Yes I know the movie, I just don't see how it's relevant. You quoted that because you mean it.

There’s no way they could have known

I doesn't change anything that you are quoting a movie where the statement may have been correct.
In the context you use it here it is simply wrong.
In general it takes a psychopath to not detect an obvious psychopath consistently behaving like a psychopath, that's a fact.

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 8 points 13 hours ago

I'm sorry that you missed many levels of understanding my original post. I wish you could have just asked for clarification instead of the diatribe of anger. Might have made you appreciate the meaning. You seem to have some issues understanding others in this message thread too. Maybe step back a second and take a breath.

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

You seem to have some issues understanding others in this message thread too.

I think you are hallucinating there. He is the one who doesn't understand the meaning of what he wrote.

PS:
Of course I know back to the future and doc and Marty, it's actually 1 of my top 3 favorite movies. But you just twisted it so much using it in this context it didn't make the least bit of sense to me, it was like reading gibberish. So I ignored it, and I don't see how it changes anything about the claim you made in the beginning,

There’s no way they could have known.

you used that quote because you mean it, and you are dead wrong.
As per my first response.

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 3 points 12 hours ago

Yes, a reference to someone being amazed of a person being voted in not qualified as President is totally out of context in this thread.

You would think as long as you've been on Lemmy, and probably on other places before that, you'd pick up on a common sarcasm trope like my first line, especially when it's ended as I did. But I realize Poe's Law has been dead for a good decade now, so the assumption is always that the person is being real. Never mind the many words later that seem to point otherwise. Right, you ignored them, as attacking on an assumption is always a great move. (that's sarcasm, btw)

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

The point he is making is irrelevant, and has no connection to voting for a malignant narcissist.
Yes Reagan was an actor, but he was not a psychopath. Although he was part in leading USA down that road.

The election of Reagan has zero bearing on the ability for people to detect a psychopath, and the fact that only another psychopath can't.

To claim the American voters didn't know they were voting for leopards eating faces is moronic. They voted for him BECAUSE of it, not out of ignorance.

[-] Soupbreaker@lemmy.world 7 points 13 hours ago
[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

Thanks.
Yes back to the future is actually one of my top 3 favorite movies, the whole thing after the first sentence was just such a load of irrelevant gibberish to me, I ignored it.
I don't see how southern strategy is in any way relevant to detecting Trump is a psychopath or rather malignant narcissist which is psychopath².

I've edited 2 of my posts to better reflect my disagreement with what Rhaedas wrote.
Movie quotes or not, he is simply factually wrong.

[-] BassTurd@lemmy.world 8 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Did you just stop reading that comment after the first sentence?

[-] drkt@scribe.disroot.org 6 points 14 hours ago

Don't really feel sorry for anyone willing to fight in wars...

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 16 points 14 hours ago

Ukraine is fighting for their right to live as Ukrainians. They have to defend themselves to avoid genocide.
I can not respect you if you don't support the right for Ukraine to exist.

[-] drkt@scribe.disroot.org 4 points 14 hours ago

I deliberately phrased it such that you could not do that and you still did it. Do you know what "willing" means? Defensive wars are not willing on the defenders part...

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 17 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Willing to fight to defend yourself is still willing to fight.
I think you are confusing the words willing and voluntarily.

[-] drkt@scribe.disroot.org 3 points 14 hours ago

The sheer amount of dick-twisting you're performing to avoid just saying "okay sorry you're right I misunderstood / didn't read"

[-] Buffalox@lemmy.world 15 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

Are you really claiming I didn't read 1 short line of text?
People unwilling to go to war normally means totally unwilling, as in pacifists.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacifism

Now please stop being an idiot, and admit you made a poorly formulated comment, that doesn't mean what you thought it means.

[-] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

Of course they're willing - that makes no sense.

[-] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 hours ago

Agreed because there are also people in Ukraine who are unwilling to fight despite it being a defensive war for them.

[-] justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io 10 points 14 hours ago

Dont forget that the poverty is by design.

Entire states are pushed into poverty and shit education to feed the US military machine.

[-] EntheoNaut@lemmy.ml 2 points 13 hours ago

That’s not an excuse to sign up to be in the military.

Stop the bullshit.

Yes the system is built to proliferate poverty and wage slavery.

That doesn’t mean becoming a soldier for the most corrupt nation and government is their only choice. Fuck that lie.

[-] frongt@lemmy.zip 9 points 12 hours ago

Not the only, but a very attractive one. You don't need any tools or skills, they will pay for all your relocation, training, food, housing, and you get the TSP and GI Bill.

If it wasn't for the whole war thing, it'd be damn near a fairly good implementation of socialism.

[-] EntheoNaut@lemmy.ml 2 points 11 hours ago

Except for the role of being an imperialist soldier, a cog in the murderous machine. Sure.

[-] blartcap_@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

You have to know that's not in the brochure or spiel they give to these impoverished kids who barely have enough of an education to read a whole sentence.

And even if it was, it's not like they would have any of the tools to even start understanding the concept after 18 years of living under US conservative media as the sole source of information and perspective.

These kids sign up literally not knowing any better, for the promise of something better on the other end. It's stupid to suggest they're doing it to choose to advance American imperialism after surveying all other options and considering the moral and tangible outcomes of all the choices they think they have at 18 years old.

[-] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 3 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

You're right. It's a tempting prospect when college isn't an option. It really is socialism on the surface:

They'll take you no matter your existing skills or education, teach you discipline and more skills, push you into peak physical condition, constant opportunities for learning, clear opportunities for advancement, and they'll make you feel like you're part of something. Plus you get out and the government promises to take care of you.

(Or betray you entirely. Veterans have such split experiences here, it seems like!)

The rest of the country says "Lol no bachelor's and 6 years experience? Kick rocks and be poor, loser. Lol."

Thanks to all the DoD (oh sorry "DoW" /s) funded entertainment propaganda, play any Call of Duty game (especially the fun ones) and you'll start to get that feeling that to be a soldier is to have purpose, to fight evil, to become something more.

It's freaking dangerous. But heck yeah it's attractive as any deal with the devil is. I refuse to swear an oath to any authority but my Creator, but I'd be lying if I didn't sometimes entertain the notion that I could like, monitor weather in Space Force or something for 4 years and reap tons of benefits.

...But yeah, look who's in charge. Terrifying. I'm SO GLAD I've stayed far away.
