It's so frustrating as an mma fan of 20+ years that this is happening. Absolutely radioactive and poisonous administration. Imagine how shitty you have to be to make this sport (which I love) look worse.

They're WWEing it. It's how they think, how they vote, everything about it is gross.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Ya mean MMA, the UFC or US politics is WWEing? I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing in regards to the UFC but definitely bad for the US. Same with this event as a whole. I think it's gonna put tens of millions of eyes on the show that night. Which is good for the UFC/the sport but incredibly embarrassing/bad for the US.

Well, the same company that owns UFC also owns WWE.

So it's only to be expected that they're run the same way.

Eh not really how it works. That merger is very recent. In the rest of the history of the company they were heavily at odds with the WWE. At the end ot the day they both sell "matches" though. The major difference being the WWE sells athletic theater and the UFC sells competitive fights. So the marketing being similar but the product is different. Both companies have been ruthless in talent/competition/territory acquisition for their entire lifespan.

A bit of both, tbh. You can still get ufc that's normal though, unlike politics.

Hasn't combat sports kinda always been this kind of thing? Brutes beating each other up for a chance at their "freedom," for everyone else's entertainment? That's what it was bound to be in a capitalist society anyways.

Speaking as a martial artist myself who sees the "interesting" side of fighting.

Not in this context no.

I just read the Wikipedia page on UFC, and all the mergers (including with WWE) make them seem “scary huge” to me.

They have as close to a monopoly on the biggest names and talent as possible, yep.
