It came. It's been there for months already. This won't lead to some final epic showdown for democracy. Democracy lost the battle this time.

This fascism won't be voted away and the millions of assholes it emboldened now know how to do it again and face no consequences.

If this is fixable it'll take decades to fix.

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 35 points 1 week ago

I'm increasingly doubtful that it will be fixed without the whole system collapsing first.

[-] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago

Hey, but we needed to teach the dems a lesson about palestine, by making everything significantly worse! I was principled! Principled!!!!

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

At least you didn't have to live in a world where people had the option to vote for an anti-genocide candidate.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 days ago

Damn, poor baby; a fraction of the horror you supported committing to foreigners had returned home to affect you. Maybe you shouldn't have spent decades loudly demonstrating that you fully consider this kind of thing fully acceptable under the assumption no-one would ever do it to you.

[-] mika_mika@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Shut the fuck up already. No one is happy about this but I hope they come for your ilk first.

[-] crusa187@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 week ago

Even if every protest voter voted for Kamala, she would not have come close. Do the bare minimum of analysis before bleating out establishment propaganda you saw on digg.

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago

ML with blatant lies. Shocker.

[-] crusa187@lemmy.ml 6 points 6 days ago

Dem with absolute refusal to address the issues within, I’m not shocked at all.

Official uncommitted count was just over 700k, and she lost by 2 million. Both parties lost substantial amounts of votes compared to 2020, but Dems lost way more. Repugs lost 2 million, and Dems lost 10 million voters, comparatively.

Uncommitted was not the problem, it was one problem for Dems. A far bigger problem was not holding a primary election in good faith.

Here’s a shocker for you: when these dipshits anoint yet another corporate stooge who obviously doesn’t give a fuck about people’s material living conditions and policy desires, they lose. Apparently you should get used to it.

The president is elected via the electoral college. Trump’s margin of electoral college victory, 86 votes, was in line with historically tight races — including 2020, 2016 and 2004 — and is smaller than the winning margins of Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George H.W. Bush. Trump’s margin was nowhere close to those in historic landslide elections, such as Ronald Reagan’s in 1984 and Nixon’s in 1972, who both had electoral-college margins above 500 votes. Stay in china or russia, or wherever your cave is.

BlueMAGA are just fascists; blaming foreigners for all their countries problems like the McCarthyist white supremacists they are

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 2 points 6 days ago

There's no such thing as bluemaga you moron.

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 days ago

If only there wasn't

[-] crusa187@lemmy.ml 2 points 6 days ago

In my cave, we abolish the electoral college and don’t put up with superdelegate nonsense stealing noms from progressives.

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I like that you just admitted to making things up. Thanks

[-] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 3 points 6 days ago

It's objectively true, you BlueMAGA dumbass

[-] the_q@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 week ago

Not what I was referencing but alright.

[-] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 13 points 1 week ago

maybe you want to make it clearer what you are referencing then

[-] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

In the coming months you will notice many cryptic posts by people who don't want to be in the next video.

[-] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 4 points 1 week ago

I'm lost sorry

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago

What are you talking about

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 7 points 1 week ago

What is "it" then? You could be referencing an amazon delivery truck for all we know.

[-] the_q@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago
[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

We DON'T know what you're talking about. Because you just said the most vague nonexplaintory "It's coming", with zero context or followup. I could say "It's coming", and in MY head I'm talking about game 6 of the world series. I would know what I mean, but if I said it in a post about fascism, people would assume I'm saying fascism is coming. Which it's not, because it's already here.

That's where everybody else's confusion stems from about your comments.

THE POLICE PROBLEM

4002 readers
391 users here now

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES

Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.

If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.

Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.

Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

Please also abide by the instance rules.

It you've been banned but don't know why, check the moderator's log. If you feel you didn't deserve it, hey, I'm new at this and maybe you're right. Send a cordial PM, for a second chance.
