People still buy Samsung. Honestly at this point if something like this surprises you, you're a fucking idiot.

[-] Chozo@fedia.io 4 points 2 weeks ago

Tell us what brand of lithium battery is immune to this.

I'll wait.

Name another brand that has repeatedly been in the news for products of various types, from jewelry to household appliances, that has been known to explode or catch fire. Sounds like you ignore that news and keep buying from that shit company and now you're salty for being called on it.

I certainly cannot name another company with a product explicitly banned from air travel because it routinely caught on fire. And neither can you, because no one company has that "honor".

The TSA has banned a single model of Samsung phone, the Galaxy Note 7, which hasn't even been manufactured for 8 years.

Sony Vaio, which arguably was largely responsible for kickstarting the Li-Ion ban before the Note 7 was specifically banned.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I don't know anything about the Vaio, but you kind of just proved my point specifically. You realize that, right?

[-] Chozo@fedia.io 3 points 2 weeks ago

What point? Your point is that you didn't know about other banned brands existed?

If your point was supposed to be "I'm not informed enough to be having this conversation", then sure I guess I proved that.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

You just provided evidence only one such ban exists which is precisely what I said. You drunk?

[-] Chozo@fedia.io 3 points 2 weeks ago

You said:

Any product that has a recalled battery is banned on flights. Including the aforementioned Vaios, which were making headlines before the Note 7 was even a thing. The Vaios weren't discontinued, though, like the Note 7 was. Instead, Sony kept making the same Vaio models, but with upgraded batteries.

The Note 7 is only unique in this regard because there does not exist a non-recalled model of the Note 7; the entire product line was shelved, which was a decision made by Samsung, not the TSA. If Samsung were to have continued producing the Note 7 with new batteries, it would not be included separately on TSA's list and would be covered under the larger ban for recalled batteries.

So the Note 7 isn't even singled-out for the reason you seem to believe it is.

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I don't know what point you think you're making. You admit that no other specific models were banned, which is what I said. Then somehow it makes it better that the Note 7 was so irredeemable that they shelved it. My point is that Samsung is hot garbage. Simply casually following the news reveals this. For like 3 years every couple months their products were getting them in trouble for catching fire or exploding. This post is a continuation of that trend.

At no point did I say technology is bulletproof as long as samsung doesn't make it. It's just obvious Samsung is a particularly shitty manufacturer, yet people keep buying from them. It's bizarre how loyal people are to this brand. In fact that's the only reason for this argument. If you didn't feel some personal attachment, we wouldn't be arguing about it.

[-] Chozo@fedia.io 1 points 2 weeks ago

Again, the crux of the issue is that you seem to believe that Samsung is unique in this. They're not. Simply casually following the news reveals this. You're focusing on Samsung because that's apparently the only one you've paid attention to, but that doesn't change the fact that Samsung devices are no more prone to spontaneously exploding than [insert whatever brand you're loyal to here].

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

It it simply not true that other (at least well-known) companies have had a wide range of random product types explode or catch fire frequently enough to remark on. I have no brand loyalty here... if you would stop being offended, you might see that I make a decent point.

I guess we have different definitions of "casually following the news", then. Because the Vaio incident was around a decade ago, and I was able to recall that off the top of my head due to the amount of articles that were posted about that product, specifically.

if you would stop being offended, you might see that I make a decent point.

Why would I be offended? I own literally zero Samsung products. And not because I'm worried that they'll catch fire; I just don't like their software. I'm not offended, and you still have no valid point, because your "point" hinges entirely on a bandwagon fallacy instead of real data.

I'm surprised these don't use those solid state batteries that were in the news like a year ago.

What is Cyberpunk?

Cyberpunk is a science-fiction sub-genre dealing with the integration of society and technology in dystopian settings. Often referred to as “low-life and high tech,” Cyberpunk stories deal with outsiders (punks) who fight against the oppressors in society (usually mega corporations that control everything) via technological means (cyber). If the punks aren’t actively fighting against a megacorp, they’re still dealing with living in a world completely dependent on high technology.

Cyberpunk characteristics include:
