"I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights" - Charlie Kirk, 2023

But he doesn't know that. Don't ruin it for him.

Ironically, this assassin literally justified the 2nd Amendment. You use it to off tyrants. And boy they sure did.

[-] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 11 points 11 months ago

But this guy wasn't even a tyrant. He was just a fucking pawn. And there's going to be somebody else ready to step in and take his place.

This doesn't solve anything. It just gives the right a much needed distraction and the illusion of having an excuse to crackdown hard on the left. They would have done it either way, but this basically buys them cover.

Right? They've been treating the left so fairly this whole time and now we went and made them mad

*Edit - I misread OP's comment, and jumped on the wrong part.

Learn your fucking history. We hanged people at Nuremberg for doing exactly what Kirk did. Kirk was guilty of crimes against humanity. He's guilty of incitement to genocide.

[-] AcidiclyBasicGlitch@sh.itjust.works 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

So was this guy put on trial or was he just executed (allegedly by a civilian sharp shooter) during a time when the president keeps making false claims about needing to militarize American cities due to a lack of law and order?

Funny you bring up this guy going to Nuremberg bc I was actually just thinking the other day how different history might have turned out of we'd actually put the major players like Hitler or Mussolini on trial in front of the rest of the world.

[-] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago

Obviously this was a case of vigilante justice. But the man made his whole living trying to incite genocide against innocent people. The US government just blew up a boat full of Venezuelans, murdering them without trial, on the accusation of them being drug smugglers. Our closest ally, Israel, routinely executes people without trial for doing far less than what Kirk did.

The 2nd Amendment is always cited as being to protect against tyranny. That obviously entails extrajudicial violence. If there is ever a valid use for extrajudicial violence, it's in the prevention of genocide. The president will do all the evil he was going to do anyway. But he's a fascist, of course he's going to do that.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to shed a tear for this guy. His last words were an attempt to incite violence against a minority group. If there is a Hell, he's burning there right now.

Those who live by the sword will die by the sword. He got exactly what was coming to him.

Show me any of these fascists being tried and convicted in a fair and just court, and I'll believe you.

Lost me at

They would have done it either way,

Right, so…someone bought them cover from all that accountability that is going around from the…democrats, or the Supreme Court, or the military, or?

The US has been at that point for months already. Fascists will find OR manufacture any excuse they want to do their fascist things. They don't need pretexts.

To quote Jesus: live by the sword, die by the sword.

That’s all that comes to mind.

These people who have been pushing for getting rid of trans people and throwing immigrants in concentration camps, and generally just calling for (and profiting from) hate need to realize doing so only has one consequence: more hate. Hate boils into violence.

People can pray for him, but he did not live a life according to Jesus’ teaching when he preached hate.

In 2024, Kirk cited Leviticus 20:13 ("If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them") as "God's perfect law when it comes to sexual matters".[105]

Kirk argued against gender affirming care for transgender people, saying, "We must ban trans-affirming care — the entire country. Donald Trump needs to run on this issue", according to Media Matters.

Just in case there was ambiguity for anyone, he suggested we kill homosexuals, and ban life-saving healthcare for trans people.

[-] aesthelete@lemmy.world 16 points 11 months ago

He was literally debating trans people as mass shooters when shot according to the reports I read.

[-] shani66@ani.social 6 points 11 months ago

yep, it was perfect timing. well, technically, he was just starting to run away towards racism (the bullet hit when he was trying to pivot to gang violence to avoid answering how many cishet white boys do shootings a year).

[-] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 53 points 11 months ago

The important takeaway here is, we know he'd be happy to have been shot. I think that victim statement should be taken into account in the eventual trial.

[-] zd9@lemmy.world 19 points 11 months ago

It's just... too poetic. I wish we weren't here as a country, and that's so heartbreaking, but we've been heading here for years if not decades.

[-] Stamau123@lemmy.world 19 points 11 months ago

He became the sacrifice he hungered for, good riddance

[-] Xella@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago
