I feel like these corps did a calculation and figured out everyone has an excuse to not boycott companies like Disney except right wingers who have become exceptionally good at the boycott.

In my experience those people will typically boycott brands as a group meanwhile my friends find every excuse in the book to support the major corps hurting them. Even aoc went to Florida during covid. And people wonder why they win.

The worst part is Conservatives actually ARE NOT good at boycotts

Just look at how badly the Bud Light boycott failed, and the reason why was because drinkers boycotted Bud Light and then started drinking... Other beers made by literally the same company.

And of course there were the people who bought Jerseys just to turn around and burn them in order to protest the NFL.

Then again I broke my own rules and ate at a Chic-Fil-A for the first time in years, because I was depressed and the thing in my head that drops sadness hormones told me it'd shut up if I got waffle fries dipped in ranch, so..... You kinda still have a point

To be fair it was my first Chic-Fil-A meal in like 9 years, and on the Black Out Day I did shop yes, but I did so at a Locally Owned Chain that is owned by a Gay Guy who donates to Food Banks... Avoiding ALL gas stations despite having a quarter tank left....

But still... we all need to practice self-awareness

Yup. Leftists Don't have that insane person conviction. Dip shits need to learn to boycott

They continue to throw money at JK Rowling at every opportunity and they'll do the same for Disney.

[-] ripcord@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

And buy Teslas and use Twitter and...

They continue to throw money at JK Rowling

YMMV, but in my 'woke' crowd, nobody's buying that merch anymore. The only people I know still doing harry potter themed crap all voted rightwing.

The last thing I saw come through was the game. A few of the left-leaning gamers bought it but way less than baulders and starfield.

This, in my circle the only Harry Potter merch I see people rocking is either at least a decade old or was bought at a convention at a booth selling fanmade merch.

This leftist has boycotted everything Sony since they bricked my PC with their rootkit in the early 2000s (and I really go out of my way to make sure nothing Sony related comes in my house, not their music, movies, games, electronics, nor their camera lenses) I only slipped up once in the past 20 or so years, when I purchased a second hand Sony Walkman mp3 player. Thing broke within 3 months of use, it's now a constant reminder that I really need to keep boycotting Sony.

I've started boycotting Amazon (including but not limited to Kindle, Audible, Prime and Twitch) and Disney since this year.

But I'm only one person.

I have shown myself to be capable of long term boycotts and I don't intend to let up. I've added Amazon's websites to my Pihole's blacklist.

But I also don't pirate their stuff. As far as I'm concerned their TV shows and movies and such don't exist on this planet.

When They fucked me over on my PS3 linux install, I had a Sony TV, A Sony receiver, 2 Playstations and a ton of games.

They're all long gone now.

Never again

Leftists are already trying to fuck megacorps over, why would they try and placate them?

Leftists are already trying to fuck megacorps over

Where?

[-] cybersin@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

What do you mean where? It's literally in the name.

Lemmy is a niche of a niche and there are more centrists (liberals) here than leftists

[-] Auli@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago

What niche of a niche? Reddit is pretty mainstream now.

[-] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 5 points 1 day ago

Everywhere?

The whole idea of leftism is to deconstruct hierarchical power structures.

mega corps are the current incarnation of exactly that.

[-] iusearchbtw@lemm.ee 14 points 1 day ago

Ideals aren't the same as action

[-] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

Fair, fully agree there.
