Maybe that's just in accordance with the normal style of metal music, where male vocals are expected / more appropriate. I'm surprised to learn that there are female metal singers at all.
Lacuna Coil, Otep, and Arch Enemy immediately come to mind, but you are correct - feminine representation is a small minority in metal.
I'd say it depends on the subgenre. Symphonic metal bands often are female fronted, such as Nightwish, Within Temptation, Leave's Eyes or Epica.
Great observation and excellent point!
Recommend Jinjer and Unleash the Archers
Light this city, Ignea, Arkona, even Battle Beast. There are plenty female vocalists with a lot of catchy songs.
Nervosa is my favorite all-women band of all time. Super tight thrash/melodeath from Brazil.
Check out the bands Savage Master and Konvent. Fantastic front women 🤘
In my head I've got a whole slew of doom, black(end), and postmetal with female vocalists - and in some cases all band members
