Do they have an issue with plate armor being shiny, or is plate armor just anachronistic for the period? Some plate armor was painted, but if it's bare steel, you'd need to keep it pretty clean/shiny and well oiled to avoid rust.
King Arthur is post Roman Britain ~5th century CE so full plate armour wouldn't exist for several hundred years.
